The People's Hero Posted 12 June 2006 Posted 12 June 2006 I completely agree about Eddie Johnson -- based on this game, he deserves to start. I was shocked on how poorly the wingers played. I counted one decent cross from Convey and Beasley was non-existant. How the hell is Convey going to deal with the Premiership if he performs like that? 1) Think he's a little over rated and may struggle in the prem anyway. 2) Not many premiership sides are as good as the Czech Republic!
Ricey Posted 12 June 2006 Posted 12 June 2006 I can certainly pick em, ooops no that was Ricey Shhh, people will talk
Ricey Posted 12 June 2006 Posted 12 June 2006 To be fair, the whole midfield was pretty anonymous. Even Reyna was often left chasing shadows. And DaBeasley seemed too busy backtracking to help Cherundolo contain Nedved. Donovan was very disappointing... Never really seen why people love Donavon so much, I think he struck it lucky in 2002 and has built fame based on that.

I would have liked to have seen Dempsey come on for Donovan and play behind Johnson and McBride. I'm not the biggest Donovan fan, and I'm still not convinced that he can be an effective forward at the international level.

Just watching Eurosport where Bryan Hamilton reckons the USA were better than the Czechs in the first half and that the scoreline didn't reflect the match He also feels that Japan were 'hardworking' and Australia were 'exciting' in todays earlier game And Donovan IS (normally) a decent player, but Eddie Johnson was miles better today.

Bryan Hamilton knows **** all, hence why he's on Eurosport.
MC Prussian Posted 12 June 2006 Posted 12 June 2006 The Czech Republic played by far better, apart from Johnson and Beasley, almost every single American player failed to impress me and all the other people watching the game today. Weak offense (McBride where?), inexistent midfield (Reyna with some glimpses of initiative), defense struggled massively against Koller. Keller without a chance against all three goals. In all honesty, this match has proven that the U.S.A. don't deserve the No. 5(?) spot in the FIFA rankings at all. That system's a joke anyway. I predict another loss against Italy and maybe - if they're lucky - a draw against Ghana. Bye bye U.S.A.

That's interesting...there's was very little in terms of positive comments from ESPN after the match. There were several references to France '98 (USA finished 32nd).
