Trouble in Germany

Recommended Posts

Is it me or does anyone else think that the media are gutted because the England fans are out there enjoying themselves.

There hasn't been a hint of trouble from any of the England fans and yet after every report from Germany they finish with the line

"There has been no trouble as of yet"

I reckon half the media have been sent out there to report on the trouble and the other half on the footie and if there's no trouble someone at the top is going to have to justify the expense!

i think the british press like to blame england for all the worlds troubles for the last 200 years

Apparently in the past the media have paid England fans to pretend or purposely cause trouble. It has happened at every major tournament so far. There was a documentary about it the other week. It wasn’t just England fans but English club fans travelling around Europe.

They interviewed fans and they told the reporter that they had been offered cash to act as if they were causing trouble and acting drunk and disorderly just so they had something to report on. The media in this country are an absolute disgrace.

For once the only trouble so far has come from the Germans and the poles. But you don’t get Sebb Blatter threatening to chuck them out of the World Cup do you?

There seems to be more trouble at home with people viewing these big screens. The BBC has had to pull their screens because of it.

Perhaps Blatter's read German history and knows better than to risk it!:whistle::whistle:

I did hear it got a bit tasty at the Germany Poland match last night but as it's not English supporters you don't hear anything in the press about it!!

I guess it's something we are gonna have to live with for the next 300 years or so!!

I guess every country has their own concerns and hooligans are one of 'em. Media in general "like" hooliganism as it sells. Here in Poland it's exactly the same (of course towards ours, noone evem mentioned the English). Except here people do get killed...

PS: The only riot was caused by ZE GERMANS (to clear the Polish :P ) and there were some 300 arrested as they attacked our fans. They also arrested 100 Polish for doing what they knew best- alcohole abuse.

I was at the Fan Stadium in Brum this afternoon ~ and it was great. Supporters from both teams, beer, food, loads of families and loads of singing.

Great afternoon, great fun - c'mon England! :D

i remember during the holland/belgium euro's all the tv news outlets had 'hooligan-cam's' and were dissappointed nothing happend after the games in holland (due to relaxed policing imo) one reported on the bbc i think, got all sparked up when he thought something had kciked of, only to tell us it was someone falling over (or whatever). anyway when it got to belgium, they couldn't believe their luck when it did finally go violent

im out here now in stuttgart and dont believe all u read in the press about no trouble. everything is largely peaceful, england lads just on the pi%s. it did kick off the night before the game in the square. lots of bottles and glasses thrown. police charged england across the square, few lads were nicked, cs gas etc.

i was talking to a few german coppers though who were telling me that fifa have asked a lot of the media/police etc not to report the trouble in the press.

the germans dont want the tournament to be associated with any trouble etc. so although its certainly not on the scale of france 98 etc, its still happening believe me!!

atmosphere is rocking though, dont want to come home...............

Yeh as if the press would agree to that!

The trouble you mentioned was reported, they claim there was 6 arrests but all were released without charge.

My favourite bit was the fan that fell off a 25ft statue while removing a German flag.

Tit! Shame it doesn't qualify for a Darwin Award

I think you'll find the UK press and Government are being very careful about what they report. Because there is no way that 16 German Police Officers getting injured is not big news, yet it was swept under the carpet as jolly-japes

It's good that the England fans are finally behaving themselves, but sadly there are still too many neds with the little Ingerlander mentality that ruin for the masses.

I am quite sure some sections of the Press would informally agree to requests for constraint. It has gone on constantly over the years. We don't live in an ideal world and sometimes journalists are asked to contribute to being as responsible as other people have to be.

The authorities have leverage too. World Cup journalists are accredited by the football authorities to cover the football and want to stay accredited.

The authorities don't want riots and might well ask accredited journalists not to do anything which might fans the flames of a situation and therefore make it worse.

As an example of how things have changed once upon a time journalists could talk to any Police Officer, Fireman etc at the scene of and incident here in the UK. Now there is an official media contact to go through and while rquests can be made it all takes time, which, of course, all takes the impact out of a story.

Such changes over the years were accepted with barely a whimper - broadly I suppose there was little choice in the end - but it does make for sanitised journalism in many cases (though there are important exceptions and there are still determined hacks everywhere).
