Steven Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 Kevin Pressman continues to deputise in goal for the injured Ian Walker, while the back four again consists of Peter Canero, Matt Heath, Nikos Dabizas and Danny Tiatto. City's midfield contains Keith Gillespie, Lilian Nalis, Joey Gudjonsson and Jordan Stewart. David Connolly and James Scowcroft make up the front two. Martin Keown is named on the bench after recovering from injury alongside Dion Dublin, Chris Makin, Scot Gemmill and Lee Morris. City: Pressman, Canero, Dabizas, Heath, Tiatto, Gillespie, Nalis, Gudjonsson, Stewart, Connolly, Scowcroft. Subs: Keown, Dublin, Makin, Gemmill, Morris. Sunderland: Myhre, Robinson, Breen, Caldwell, Whitley, Stewart, Whitehead, Elliott, Lynch, Carter, Arca. Subs: Lawrence, Brown, Bridges, Collins, Carson.
scodger cubs Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 looks like a good strong team with subs. Do you think we can get the big 3 points ??
City Fan Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 Another mistake by Pressman - he's cost us too many points this season. Come on Levein, get some cover!
Ricey Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 Hmm sounded like we had many chances but poor finishing has cost us, I'm starting to wonder if Connolly isn't just unlucky but a bad finisher? Again a Pressman blunder has cost us but we should of scored before then. Oh well.
Guest Daniel Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 Pressman was poor today, Connolly is awful. Bad game.

Guest Daniel Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 He's a terrible player. 2 goals all season is terrible and its not like he's had no chances. No wonder West Ham were singing ''Youve got Dave Connnolly'

No wonder West Ham were singing ''Youve got Dave Connnolly' 35642 His scoring record this season has been poor but remember all but 3 of those games were under Adams or Bassett were our game involved the long ball up to Scowcroft or Dublin. He has looked very very good for us at times, I just worry about his finishing sometimes but I think he is just lacking confidence.
Guest Daniel Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 You dont go to the matches though, so how do you know what happens except what Matt Jones says?
Mark Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 I'm certain Connolly would do a lot better if he had a proper partner. Its trully shocking that we cant change it also, thats the best we can put out so we cant really complain until Levein is able to change things around. We did ok today nonetheless, thanks to another mistake by Pressman though we end up losing, they are coming thick and fast now after a good start. You can see why he was released by Wednesday.
Ricey Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 You dont go to the matches though, so how do you know what happens except what Matt Jones says? 35644 I do go to games just not that many, we also have a thing round hear called television.

Just pointed out the bad english for you pal. Thing is not all games are on t.v.
Benji Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 pressman, dabizas on and off, gillespie and scowcroft were shocking a loan/free transfer goalkeep is a MUST, defenders have no confidence in him and every shot at him u fear its going to go under his body or something dabizas couldn't pass to a man in blue today, although his heading was solid and some tackles gillespie is and always has been a lazy arse, on the ball he can be such a threat like the run in the first half he made but personally against wigan starting lee morris is a must as well, how fast is he!!! scowcroft was shocking today, few decent touches and flicks but didnt win as much in the air today and kept getting in connolly's or nalis' way we need a 'keeper and a striker on loan, stewart, joey and heath had the best games for me
Mark Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 Yeh Jordan was great today. He kept us in the game at 0-0 when their striker was through on goal, and his crossing today was much more consistant. He looked confident going forward as well. I always had faith in him

No they are not but you were suggesting I have never seen him play and I've only heard him on the radio.
Guest Daniel Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 But you cant judge a player on one t.v appearence and a a couple of games surely? He's done nothing at all and alot of his passing is poor.
Benji Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 to be fair that last ditch challenge was class, striker really should of took it first time but full credit to jordan what i dont understand though, he's started playing well again....so what do we do? we stop playing down the left! heath had another good game it seems as though the home-grown players are making us a team
Mark Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 But you cant judge a player on one t.v appearence and a a couple of games surely? He's done nothing at all and alot of his passing is poor. 35666 Please judge him when we have two decent strikers playing for once. I'd hate to be him right now its like he's up front on his own all the time. He really should learn the offside rule though.

It doesnt matter if you have Rooney next to you or Akinbye, a pass is a pass and he cant seem to make them to his own players, the amount of time he gives the ball away is unreal. Fair enough, the bad partners might stop him scoring as many, but is all round play is generally poor.
Wellman Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 i thought Jordan had a really good game today. He was quite solid, crossing was good, got forward as much as he could, good little flicks, very impressed with him since the departure of Adams. Connolly was very poor today, couldn't find a pass for fcuk, offside all the time and didn't/couldn't do much with it. I agree with petrescu on this, if we have another decent striker up top, connolly would be scoring goals IMO.
Scarby Posted 13 November 2004 Posted 13 November 2004 very impressed with him since the departure of Adams so CL needs more time to impress but Jordan has improved leaps and bounds in a week
Anish Posted 14 November 2004 Posted 14 November 2004 I agree with Benji's assessment - we need a new keeper ASAP, and somebody else in defence alongside Heath (great game yesterday) - hopefully Keown will be back to his best and playing against Wigan. My judgements are based only on the 2nd half (I missed the first half cos i was on a late gate), but I thought Dabizas was shocking on the ball. He kept trying to do too many fancy tricks instead of getting rid of it and his passing was woeful. Tiatto was also very poor on the whole - he didn't keep his shape in midfield and gave the ball away frequently. His crossing was inept too. Gillespie was back to his usual laziness again - god the guy infuriates me. He kept making the wrong decisions and his attitude was all wrong. The guy needs a slap. As for Connolly - I am inclined to go with BM on this one. He has been very poor and today showed new levels of crapness. His finishing is atrocious - I'm sure some of us could have scored the one where he hit the bar (even if it was offside) - and he should have tried to lob their GK the other time when he was clear through. I do not blame Scowy for this - that is the easy option. Connolly has played practically every game this season with either Blake, Dublin, Scowy, Benj and even Wright - but he is always the same. He puts in the effort but he is a striker and he is judged on scoring/creating goals. He is not doing his job and I would drop him. The amount of easy chances he has missed cannot be blamed on anyone else - I would start Morris upfront with Scowy now.
