The People's Hero Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 Very much considering purchasing a ford fiesta ghia. It's 02, has done 20k miles, one previous careful owner, £4k. Has a/c but no cd player, electric windows, power steering, nice looking interior, f/s/h - no probs. Am I getting a decent deal?
Random Burglar Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 For the mileage and its age your not getting a bad deal at all...Cars on average are expected to do 11,000 miles a year. Suprised bout the cd player though
Maybes Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 Yeah seems a good deal mate. 4 years old with 20k miles on the clock is not bad at all. Was the previous owner a woman? If so this car will most likely have been looked after, as women are less likely to rag it about
The People's Hero Posted 1 July 2006 Author Posted 1 July 2006 Me too, thought Ghias had cd as standard, particularly as it's just 4 years old. Only 20k miles on the clock though. Think i'll test drive it tomorrow.
Nationwider Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 Sounds good. Best get one of those DCI checks to make sure it hasn't been totalled and glued back together. They cost a few quid, but are worth it. I loved my old Fiesta. By rights, I shouldn't be in this thread - I know sod all about cars.

The People's Hero Posted 1 July 2006 Author Posted 1 July 2006 I had a test drive in the Saxo VTR 1.6 That was fun. I just think it's best I don't get one Also, driving position was awful

macbeth Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 no!! go for a ferrari or maserati to maintain peoples hero status fiestas are for midwives and district nurses etc
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2006 Author Posted 2 July 2006 Surely a maserati only becomes an option aged 40+ ?
davieG Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 Surely a maserati only becomes an option aged 40+ ? Is that £40 mill plus
Phube Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 Me too, thought Ghias had cd as standard, particularly as it's just 4 years old. Only 20k miles on the clock though. Think i'll test drive it tomorrow. I too own a Fiesta Ghia (Y reg), and it has a CD player so yours should, as standard. The only thing is the previous owner could have stipulated a tape player but have a CD changer in the boot/under seat - but then taken this out before offering you the car!! To make sure it's a Ghia check for crappy 'wooden' dash board look, front windscreen heating elements (the best invention ever!!!), 5x2-spoke alloys, electric front windows & r c/locking.
macbeth Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 Surely a maserati only becomes an option aged 40+ ? not if your prepared to sacrifice things; like wife /girlfriend /food/ drink its your choice but be warned if you turn up at your mates house in a fiesta offering to take him out to the pub his reply will surely be " no thanks there'll be a bus along any day now" ther are some things even your best friends won't tell you!!
Jay Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 Me too, thought Ghias had cd as standard, particularly as it's just 4 years old. Only 20k miles on the clock though. Think i'll test drive it tomorrow. in the words of Alan Partridge.... They've rebadged it you fool!!! make sure they have not stuck a ghia badge on the back you know what ford owners can be like many of them own 16v Ghia Turbo Lx's and the so on
SystonFox Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 I had a test drive in the Saxo VTR 1.6 That was fun. I just think it's best I don't get one Also, driving position was awful ive got a VTR 1.6 mate so any questions about them come to me, your right the driving position is awfull there must be only 2cm between me and the roof lining and im only 5'11. there a really fun car to take into some country lanes round the bends. my own slogan for the car would be this car doesnt bend the rules, it rules the bends. alas finding a good, well looked after and un-ragged or un-modified one is hard. i had to pay 2k for my 98 S reg with 2 owners, fsh and 40k on the clock. probably over the odds but the girl i bought it off used to live across the road and she wasnt one to thrash it about and now i take just as much care of it. if your getting one though they can be high on insurance at first, only a grp 7 but younger lads end up totalling them and putting other peoples insurance up. good car!

I'll confess I don't know a lot about cars, but fairly certain this is a ghia. I reckon the previous owner was just a bit tight and stipulated he wanted radio/cassette. I've checked auto trader and whilst most ghias are fitted with cd players, some do have r/c. Will make a note to check alloys. The amazing walnut effect dash is certainly in place though!

The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2006 Author Posted 2 July 2006 I hate ford KA's I swear they're made of three components, and that's it.
macbeth Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 I swear they're made of three components, and that's it. just two; they are made of two bubble cars stuck back to back
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2006 Author Posted 2 July 2006 My girlfriend's dad has stepped up to the plate as someone who knows about cars. I was trying not to get him involved, he's always looking for stuff he knows more about than me. Nevermind. I suppose he'll be useful. I'll just have to bite my tongue through the cutting comments.
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2006 Author Posted 2 July 2006 On second thoughts, I'm asking him for advice, but he drives a proton wira?
