bald reynard Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 IF anyone is mad enough to come in for him (and Gerrbrand & Hamill - as probably the most likely departures), we MIGHT get a bit of cash - to spend on a LEFT sided midfielder/defender. If so, I'd like us to look at Dan Harding again.
Scow Posted 4 July 2006 Posted 4 July 2006 I'd imagine it will be difficult to get rid of both Hamill and Sylla. We just have to hope for some mediocre Scottish team (Ok, anyone outside the Old Firm and Hearts perhaps) or a team Levein takes charge of. As for Gerrbrand, I think Wolfsburg was the other team we were competing with to sign him last season. Possibly they may revive their interest in him? I certainly feel we need to shift at least one defender on, and although Gerrbrand is fairly good on the ball and obviously has ability, he lacks the presence and strength required for this league.
moseeds Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Gerbrand is an excellent defender. I think the injury rocked him a little last year as well as the general instability. He didn't play as bad as people make out. I think Maybury's time may be up. He had a rubbish time at right back last year and was just "filling in" at right wing towards the end. A proper winger is required which would render maybury's position in the first 11 surplus.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 I don't agree with position-changing much but Kelly seems to be open to it and Kisnorbo is certainly a reformed player since moving back to central defence while Maybury has done a passable job on the right wing. How about Gerrbrand in midfield? If Kisnorbo's strength and aerial ability suited central defence more than central midfield, maybe Gerrbrand's comfort on the ball and passing ability would suit midfield more? Just a thought and with so many centre-backs at the club now maybe this has occurred to Kelly too.
Ric Flair Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 We have too many defenders, atleast one of them has got to go. Gerrbrand technically is the best centre half we have, but his first season here was dodgy and he struggled to adapt to the style of play. We've now added 2 more defenders which lessens the chance of him getting a good run in the team next season. It just doesn't make sense for Kelly to keep this amount of defenders. We have 6-7 centre halves, it's moronic. Sylla or Maybury need to go, preferrably both.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 perhaps he wants a shite hot reserve team which doesn't concede? And doesn't play in any league.
Ric Flair Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 perhaps he wants a shite hot reserve team which doesn't concede? We aren't playing any reserve games next season, we've been bounced out of the league due to not being in the premiership anymore. That's another point why we don't need all these players.
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 We aren't playing any reserve games next season, Not strickly true, the club said at the time that they would be arranging reserve team friendlies as and when was nescessary at Belvior drive. Your right, we aren't going to play any reserve team fixtures are we?

Your right, we aren't going to play any reserve team fixtures are we? We still won't be playing 20+ games in the reserves like we did last season and with our army of centre halves we have, it's a waste to have some of them not playing any regular match football.

I like the sound of that. At noon they march on St Petersburg!
Guest Gist Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 You can't base a poor squad number on how many games he will play or if he is going or not.
Stevosevic Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 You can't base a poor squad number on how many games he will play or if he is going or not. i think you can when he moves from number 7 to 22
jack_LCFC Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 i think you can when he moves from number 7 to 22 I agree, he wouldn't have taken 7 off him if he was in the first team plans
