davieG Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 Some time ago on here I had a spare ticket for a City game which I offered up for free to anyone over 16, at the time some people said I was being over cautious re the age and its conotations in today's society. I thought not and this is partly why, a sign of society gripped with paranoia. Source: Vicar steps down for cheek kiss A vicar has stepped down as a school governor after kissing a primary pupil on the cheek to congratulate her. The Rev Alan Barrett, vicar of Tamworth, Staffordshire, kissed the girl in front of pupils and teachers because she had done well in maths. A church spokesman said a police inquiry found no offence had taken place, but the vicar was told to have no contact with the school. The current climate had tainted the innocent act with suspicion, he said. An informal investigation conducted by the Archdeacon of Lichfield, the Venerable Chris Liley, found that formal disciplinary proceedings were not justified, the spokesman added. 'Common greeting' But the investigation did deem the vicar's behaviour as "inappropriate" and sought assurances from him that he would not do it again. The diocesan spokesman said: "The conclusion that Mr Barrett had acted inappropriately is not a finding of guilt or negligence, but recognition that in today's climate, previously acceptable innocent behaviour is now subject to misunderstanding and suspicion. "As the complaint and subsequent police investigation demonstrates, the simple act of a kiss on the cheek - a common greeting throughout the world - has potentially damaging consequences. "The Bishop of Lichfield has written to the mother of the girl setting out the steps the diocese has taken and the conclusion of the investigation. "He has explained that if the mother still feels that the conduct warrants a formal investigation she may lodge a formal complaint under the clergy discipline measure." The spokesman added the diocese took child protection very seriously and had policies in place which all parishes were required to abide by. Mr Barrett was not available for comment.
macbeth Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 unbelievable was it the mother who originally made the complaint?
Alexikokopops Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 I remember when I were in Primary School if you forgot your PE kit you had to do it in your pants and school shirt. Imagine if they tried that now.

davieG Posted 13 July 2006 Author Posted 13 July 2006 Our Geography teacher used to either use the slipper or a very large t-square on our trouserless arses, my wife thinks maybe I should sue them as she's getting fed up having to do it still after all these years. Oh the affect school has on you

Nationwider Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 ' date='Jul 13 2006, 05:37 PM' post='349836']I remember when I were in Primary School if you forgot your PE kit you had to do it in your pants and school shirt. Imagine if they tried that now. It does happen. I have an aquaintance who teaches in a primary school. Perhaps half the children in a Year One class will not be provided with PE kit by their parents - so they do PE in their underwear. This is more an indictment of the area however. It's a very sad state that we've got ourselves into that things like vicars being banned from schools are now commonplace. If we get "Sarah's Law" in this country, it will lead to absolute ****ing anarchy, partly because our government will inevitably screw it up. As things stand, it's probably easier for a sex offender to get into a school than a vicar.
Cat Burger Posted 14 July 2006 Posted 14 July 2006 I don't know about you lot, but I wouldn't have kissed her in that situation just to be on the safe side. She is a Primary pupil after all, he presumably had to bend down quite a way to kiss her, perhaps that's why it looked weird?

She is a Primary pupil after all, he presumably had to bend down quite a way to kiss her, perhaps that's why it looked weird? That's my whole point, just to be on the safe side I wouldn't let an under 16 use my spare season ticket, I avoid meetings at work where it involves just one woman, unless I know them well, I have to turn away from seeing 'kid' having a laugh in public, I've avoided helping lost kids in distress - all just to be on the safe side. Where as in the past I've taken photo's of my kids & their mates at school plays, sports days, football games, cubs, scouts, when they've visited my house. I've played games with them involving physical contact , taken them swimming, to the park. I wouldn't do any of these on my own now and probably wouldn't be allowed too. Men are being seriously sidelined in society. I've done nothing wrong, I've no inclination to do anything wrong but these day it's like walking on broken glass when kids are involved.

Instead of having a word or enforcing the rules, they raised the age limit. When I questioned this, they said it was they'd changed the "group policy" following fears over paedophiles. So now we have to put up with even older boys perving as mother's will always take the piss by taking in boys a good two years over the limit set. To be honest, I don't understand the stance, as this now means that older girls can go into the men's changing rooms, which seems more dangerous to me. I just think it's laziness on the kids, as most nowadays aren't able to dress themselves without help, and of course the mothers will do anything for them.

I want my child to have memories of her childhood and look back at photos and videos, how dare people try and take that away

Saying that, there some girls that hang around my area, they must be around 14-16 ish but they look alot older and they keep flirting with me etc, I keep telling them to try and find guys there own age, otherwise they will either get themselves in trouble or some bloke and that I fear that some bloke's gonna think they are alot older and take advantage!!! But that's the youth of today, they will do as they please!!!

Its the responsibility of the Nursery and Parents to fend off intruders... You cant stop a complete freak taking photos of kids and getting off on them, I mean there could be a bloke in the bushes opposite nursery with some sort of telephoto lens, thats his sick problem and I trust in the authorities to collar them, frankly as long as my son doesnt come into physical contact with them...Im happy!

We have got to be draw the line somewhere! It's already been drawn Jankers, to some extent we are all to blame, we've allowed the government and it's quango's, as result of perceived public (media) pressure to alieanate the decent, law abiding majority in an attempt to catch/stop the miserable, selfish, guttersnipes of this world. Unfortunately the net result is we lose out. To be perfectly honest I'd sooner have it as it was and take the risks, because despite all this 1984 stuff the bad is still happening as it ALWAYS has and probably always will because these low lifes will always find a way and will not be deterred. Does prison and capital punishment stop crime, not bloody likely.
Katy Posted 14 July 2006 Posted 14 July 2006 If the government insist on playing God with our kids then at least at things like nativities and such like, have a professional videoer that would make copies for all parents etc. Its crap but at least no one gets accused of wanting to perv over kids
