davieG Posted 27 August 2006 Author Posted 27 August 2006 The thing is tho, unlike Dabizas, he has got years on his side to improve certain aspects of his game such as his distribution. Lets not forget he is only 22 or 23 and if their is a complete CB at that age then he wouldnt be playing for Leicester !! Be glad with what you have got, which is a fully committed defender who gives his all. Getting booked and giving away free kicks is the nature of the beast with McCarthy, and I feel that him and Kisnorbo are turning into a decent partnership. I will look forward (or not as the case may be!) to see how they cope with Hartson in the next game Don't get me wrong I thought Dabizas was awful considering his supposed pedigree, not forgetting also that MON considered signing him. As for McCarthy my question was 'Is McCarthy turning into Dabizas MK2' bearing in mind 'How many free kicks has he given away this season by pushing the player in front of him.' which was a fundamental problem with Dabizas and attracted a lot of criticism from this forum.
Hazza Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 I was getting annoyed at the number of times he'd give away often needless free-kicks, but as has bene stated, he's young and will hopefully improve on that. Thing is, when he's not there we seem to miss his leadership and/or communication, he does seem to be the only one who'll take charge and shout the odds.
Steven Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 Did anyone say he was doing everything wrong? Being quoted in the same breath as Dabizas?
BartonFox Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 Well at last the realisation is sinking in. Say what you like about Dabizas but he played at the higher end of the Premiership for the bulk of his career in England. Paddy McCarthey has played for a team in the lower half of the CCC, there is no comparison. If people think McCarthey is better than Dabizas lol
ithuriel Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 paddymac and kis are a solid defensive partnership. they are certainly needed with the midfield we have at present. paddymac can be hairbrained at times but he has the ability , just needs to cut out the dumb needless stuff
lcfc_jme Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 He just needs to stop himself getting booked.. It's all good saying that him giving away freekicks and getting booked for it is fine as long as he keep the opposition strikers quiet, but what happens when the opposition score from one or two of these freekicks, he gets booked/sent off (or suspended for too many bookings) and we lose the game, meaning he isn't keeping their strikers quiet anymore??
Tommeh Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 I thought Paddy gave a good performance yesterday and gave away fewer needless free kicks than usual. His yellow card was never a booking. IMO he is getting a better player all the time and is one of the better centre backs in this league. Maybe not in that incident, but with his constant fouls they all mounted up and he did deserve to be booked(there must have been 5 altogether in our 3rd of the pitch which all put us under unecessary pressure.) He was bound to get booked eventuallly
lcfc_jme Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 Know of anybody that has a little bet on that sees him being the most booked Championship player this season??

What makes you think that Paddy M will improve the fouling aspect of his game, when Dabizas was still doing it when he played here?

Because Paddy M has alot more potential than Dabizas ever had, and I think Paddy M reads the game better
BartonFox Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 Because Paddy M has alot more potential than Dabizas ever had, and I think Paddy M reads the game better And on what basis do you make that statement?
ithuriel Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 i would say watching the games dabizas really wasnt upto much , even if he did play for newcy once upon a time. paddymac has his faults but id rather have paddy in the back four than dabs
escape2victory Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 And on what basis do you make that statement? Who would you prefer captaining your team then Barton, McCarthy or Dabizas ?? Its great to be optimistic sometimes, isnt it Barton ?!
davieG Posted 27 August 2006 Author Posted 27 August 2006 Who would you prefer captaining your team then Barton, McCarthy or Dabizas ?? Its great to be optimistic sometimes, isnt it Barton ?! Out of those I'd pick Barton
BartonFox Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 Out of those I'd pick Barton Of course you would Davie, but you understand the game
BartonFox Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 Who would you prefer captaining your team then Barton, McCarthy or Dabizas ?? Its great to be optimistic sometimes, isnt it Barton ?! I'd take Nikos Dabizas everytime. The guy has a proven record in the Premiership, Europe and Internationally, he might not be the greatest but to say McCarthey is better than him is deluding yourself. Being honest in not being disloyal
Ultra Posted 27 August 2006 Posted 27 August 2006 People forget that Walsh, Elliott, Taggart among others also gave away their fair share of free-kicks. McCarthy is of the same mould. Yes, he may have been slower than Eastwood yesterday. But Kisnorbo wasn't, and had him in his pocket. Sadly too many referees in this league go on reputations rather than events, which is why Paddy Mac picked up so many fouls, and a booking, yesterday. He may well pick up more suspensions this season. But as long as we have McAuley to cover for him, we can limit the damage.
