Anyone else agree/disagree?

Anyone else agree/disagree? peterborough is very nice, albeit near impossible to find anywhere (other than the queens gate) as the sign posts are non existant. but other than that its a thoroughly nice place. does this mean peterborough is the new leicester? it used to be leicester that got slagged off all the time.
john_lcfc Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 i went to peterborough many moons ago to get a new passport urgently and i can officially say it is a shithole. mind you if leicester want my honetown i think many could say the same about our city
Monk Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 Peterborough is a hole. Dont go there. Queensgate is a nice place filled with crap shops. Anywhere outside of that is ghetto (apart from the big houses on the outskirts). The Hospital is old. The train station is served by Central Trains who I dispise. All in all Its crap.
golden gordon Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 i knew a nice lady in market deeping....if that counts
Suffolk_fox Posted 1 September 2006 Author Posted 1 September 2006 OK, so apart from the Cathedral, the beer festival and Queensgate.....
john_lcfc Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 OK, so apart from the Cathedral, the beer festival and Queensgate..... discount queensgate, cos thats still shit for a city centre shopping centre.
stez Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 OK, so apart from the Cathedral, the beer festival and Queensgate..... ....what have the peterboroughonians ever done for us??!
Suffolk_fox Posted 1 September 2006 Author Posted 1 September 2006 ....what have the peterboroughonians ever done for us??! Don't forget the A47....
golden gordon Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 the best thing to come out of it is the A47 (both ways)

Thracian Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 Having lived in Peterborough and close to the author's City, Oxford, where I once had many friends, I can understand that in comparing the two, Peterborough might suffer. Oxford is a vibrant place if you're accepted into student circles, with parties, super places to eat and drink, swimming parties in the rivers and lots of strawberries and champagne on the punts. People also say Peterborough has changed for the worse, which I can imagine, but I remember it as a really great City, with great surroundings, great people and loads to do. Happiest time of a wonderfully happy life I'd say. If our author couldn't find anywhere to eat maybe he could have ventured out to Wansford where they made one of the James Bond films, perhaps to the Haycock or to a couple of places around Market Deeping or Stamford. Then there was canoeing on the Nene, skinny dipping in the quarries that became Ferry Meadows, golf at Milton or Thorpe Wood, squash at Eastfield or Bretton, grass track racing, real ale pubs, decent theatre, acceptable nightspots, quick weekend trips to the coast at Wells, some of the randiest girls in Britain (according to friends) sailing, fishing, picnicing, endless beauty spots the list is endless. I worked for EMAP and the job was one endless adventure. They treated me wonderfully and I'll never work with better colleagues in or out of the office. Peterborough? Wish I'd never left in many ways!. Oxford? Loads of fun too!
stez Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 if 'the auther' really thinks peterborough is crap then he needs to visit grantham, although on the up a bit at the mo, it surely is the dumps' dump!
Thracian Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 if 'the auther' really thinks peterborough is then he needs to visit grantham, although on the up a bit at the mo, it surely is the dumps' dump! One long traffic jam in my limited experience.
lcfcalan Posted 1 September 2006 Posted 1 September 2006 They do a good beer festival. I live in Peterborough, and after 20yrs of being here , I can give an opinion that you may or may not agree with. It is indeed a good place to live, (I moved up here from London) and it has a diverse culture and many places to go and get drunk in . Oh and many eating houses. And many places to get drunk in . And a shit football team that you can view every other Saturday and laugh at Barry ( be fair he sold us Steve Claridge ) Fry . Also , It has good road connections with Leicester and occasional good rail connections too. Also the Romans once lived here and developed nuclear warfare.
stez Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 One long traffic jam in my limited experience. and nothing has changed, it was jam packed (again) this very morning
lcfcalan Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 and nothing has changed, it was jam packed (again) this very morning 20 yrs ago , a road jam was if there were 3 vehicles in front of you at a roundabout But times move on , and that is a bug bear here in Peterborough , the 'entries by road' to Peterborough are inadequate , generally a good 'road' system, but it goes mega wrong when a road is closed or worked on.

Rincewind Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 Like I said I've only been once and my time was spent mainly in a beer tent. But the festival closed in the afternoon (reopening at night) and I decided to have a stroll around and savour the delights that Petorborough had to offer. Along with this came the rain for good measure. The shopping centre was compact and larger than I expected. I liked the area by the river. There was a good bar on a riverboat. Had a nice choice of ales. On a one time visit opinion I thought it was OK. Would have gone this year but never had any days off when the beer Festival was on. Can't think of another reason to visit.

Indeed Peterborough as a city centre is very nice, I like the fact the Cathedral is situated in it too. When I want a change from Leicester and Grantham I often pop along there as it's actually nearer to Peterborough than Leicester from my house
Daggers Posted 2 September 2006 Posted 2 September 2006 Apparently, according to Cobblers fans, Peterborough is "full of shit, shit and more shit ." Oh yes, "Peterborough is full of shit!" It's where the McDonalds is I worked at and refused to pick up the turd from the floor.
