Tevez To Corinthians

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -- Argentina's Carlos Tevez is set to join Corinthians of Brazil after Boca Juniors agreed on Monday to transfer the forward for close to $20 million, a director of the Argentine club said.

"We're going to sign a letter of intent. It's $18 million for 80 percent of the (player's) registration plus one and a half million in transfer costs. Tevez says there is no question that he wants to go," Boca vice-president Pedro Pompilio said.

"The (Boca) board of directors will meet on Thursday and the sale should be approved there," Popilio told Radio Mitre of Buenos Aires.

"The transfer...is on track. The player spent two hours in a meeting with (Boca president) Mauricio Macri and told him he wants to go now. He doesn't want to wait until June."

Argentine media said the 20-year-old Tevez, who top-scored with eight goals in six games as he inspired Argentina to the soccer gold medal at the Athens Olympics in August, will leave for Brazil in the next few days.

"What saddens us and annoys us a bit at the same time is that our best player, and at such a young age, should have played such a short time at this club," added Pompilio.

"We wanted him to stay and play the next edition of the Libertadores Cup (in 2005)."

Tevez, who helped Boca win the Libertadores Cup in 2003 and reach this year's final, has attracted interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

I can't believe that he is moving to a Brazilian club instead of a major European one. :S He turned Bayern Munich down in the summer because he wanted to stay loyal to Boca. Now he is going to Corinthians.Weird.

I would of loved him to come to a English club in January except Man Utd. But don't look like it will happen now. :(

Would he get a work permit to play in this country? How many caps does he have?

He has around 10 caps I think. Well I am pretty sure he does. I don't know if thats enough to get a work permit though.

He needs a couple more years in South America I think before he moves to Europe. He is undoubtedly a great talent, I saw him play for Boca in the Argentininan league a few years back before he was well known and thought he was a incredible player.

I watch some of the league games that are on at like 1am in the morning on channel 4. I wacthed it once about 2-3 years ago and he has been my favorite player since. Him and Robinho are the best up and coming players in the world.

There are alot of up and coming players that could well be exceptional players. The two you mentioned along with Rooney, Kaka, Adu, Julio Baptista, Fabio Paim and Diego. Not going to be a patch on Stearman though are they?! ;)

I've seen a little bit of Robinho, but IMO he wasn't near as good as Diego when they were at Santos. Diego was the catalyst in that team, no doubt!

It seems that Diego has gone off the boil in the past year or so, where as Robinho has scored 35 goals in the past year or something I was reading!!

Well now that Diego isn't there anymore (joined Porto in the summer), maybe Santos changed their style, I don't know... but I haven't seen Santos either since Diego's departure...

Apparently Diego has never reached the heights he did when he burst on the scene at 17, where as Robinho is getting better each year. To be honest i've only seen both of them about 3 or 4 times and they were brief highlights. But their brazilian so no doubt they would rip most teams apart.

Aye, I'm just waiting to see when they'll both be in Europe... lovely to see Brazilian skill around these shores :)

Apparently Chelsea are signing Robinho in January for £14million.

42716[/snapback]

It was earlier reported that Robinho had agreed to join Real Madrid! Brazilians don't tend to come here, how many top class one's have? Juninho is the only one I can think of and he was never the same the second time round.

I would love to see Robinho here, but I think most non european players are better off in Italy or Spain, they don't settle that well here.

Trundle could defo cut it at championship level, someone needs to take a gamble on him. We've got to stop trying to sign named players like Dublin, Wilcox, Dabizas, Gemmill, etc and go for a few unproven players. Trundle would get our ghostly atmosphere going.

Benji I think you're referring to the AC Milan vs Deportivo game, which Milan won 5-1 and Kaka scored 2.
