Better than Flags and Perspex?

We're not the only desperate club then :P

Ten thousand cheerstix will be given away to fans as part of Derby County's forthcoming Black and White Day.

The home game against Sunderland on Saturday (September 9) has been designated a Black and White Day by boss Billy Davies, with prizes up for grabs for Rams fans who enter into the spirit of a massive home match-day occasion.

The cheerstix - large, inflatable sticks that when banged together create a loud noise - will be given away while face-painters, for black and white faces only, will be situated on the north-west and north-east corners of Pride Park Stadium.

Derby County will be issuing money-can't-buy prizes at the Sunderland match for the best black and white-themed fancy dress in each of the three home stands - north, east and west - including the opportunity to be a 'Director for the Day' at an upcoming game.

It's all part of the club's "The Season Starts Here" initiative to encourage Rams fans who have yet to invest in a season ticket to sign up for the remainder of the 2006/07 Championship campaign.

Billy said: "Rams fans have shown their loyalty in great numbers again, with around 16,000 season tickets sold over the summer.

"We recognise however that for many August is a difficult month because of family holidays.

"That's why we are taking the opportunity now to remind fans they've only missed two home games so far and the season really does start here."

Season ticket holders in 2005/06 who have yet to renew this season pay only £292 for the cheapest available season tickets in 2006/07 from the Sunderland game onwards - that's an average of less than £14 per game.

There's an even better deal for seniors (60 years and over) and young adults (19-21 years) - both these age groups can renew from just £151, an average of £7.19 per game.

Juniors (18 and under) renewing from last season pay from just £114 (£5.43 per game) and junior juniors (11 and under) pay the cheapest price of all, from only £59 (£2.81 per game).

Fans who didn't have a season ticket in 2005/06 pay slightly more - from £310 for adults, £169 for seniors and young adults, £123 for juniors and £64 for junior juniors.

I always wondered what those things were! I remember seeing Preston fans having them last season I think.

Pretty rubbish idea, can inflatable sticks even make that much noise?!

They hand them out all the time at Watford as well.

and no they're just annoying. Face painting for the kids isn't a bad idea though.

What about those poor yellow people from China?
