Katy Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 I agree with JO. You knowingly bring your kids into the world, it's your responsibility to get them to eat well and be healthy. Im on a tight budget for my food but I make sure my child has fruit and veg every day. There's plenty of decent cheap fruit and veg to be had at the market and at supermarkets. You can make a veg packed stew or casserole in a big batch and freeze it. It's not rocket science to get your kids (and yourself) to have more of the good stuff and a little of the 'bad' stuff. The NHS is stretched enough as it is and the next generation will bleed it dry if we don't take some responsibility pretty damn quick!
Guest Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 I don't have kids, but I work full time, study part time, go to the gym a lot, and still manage to eat mostly unprocessed fresh healthy food. People seem to prefer the easy option of bunging something in the oven or the microwave, and hide beind the 'healthy food is expensive' argument. It is if you try buying from Sainsbury, but like Kayteh says, the market is good value for money, as are the local butchers and greengrocers etc. As for those mothers who boycotted the healthy eating programme and smuggled junk into school for their kids, they deserve everything they get, but inflicting it onto their kids is tantamount to child cruelty.

Wankas, and anyone who wants to have a stand up row on this one, I am happy to oblige! PArents are to blame for children... FULL STOP!
The People's Hero Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 Jankers tellin' it like it is. Let's go in to politics Jankers... you do the policy, I'll take care of the sleaze.
gatesheadfox Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 its a diet of microchips and crisps which are handed out just to shut the kids up because you can't be ringed to put effort in to feed them. if parents stopped giving them crisps they'd probably just salt some lard and let them chomp that. as a kid i used to eat crisps quite often but not every day and when i got in i was fed food, not microchips

Foods fit for king. Salted lard sounds very appealing, I would like to try this some day.
The People's Hero Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 When I spent time as a student it definitely worked out cheaper to eat 'real' fairly nutritious food than it did to eat convenience/snackfood/takeaway all the time.

lookwhaticando Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 Conscription is the answer. Excercise. Fresh Air. Nutritious food.

lcfc_jme Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 Conscription is the answer. Excercise. Fresh Air. Nutritious food. You won't get that by sitting in posting on FoxesTalk or playing Football Manager/Pro Evo all the time !! Most kids love satelite TV and technology, so they don't go out as much anymore

lcfc_jme Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 also over-protective and paranoid parents don't let them out much too Blame papers like The Sun and the NOTW for that. They create such a bad image of the streets which means that a lot of parents think there's a pedo, a murderer, a rapist and a bunch of ASBO teenagers lurking around every street corner.

cisono Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 you know, condoms and that I don't see the link... never mind
lcfc_jme Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 any non-paranoid parent knows that's not the case though. Yeah they do, but because National tabloid papers (which, lets face it, are extremely popular) have these things plastered all over their front pages all the time, parents just start to believe it. Add that to the fact that major incidents are always on the local news as well, and you get a cycle which sort of brainwashes parents into believing these things. I personally think it's daft to think such things, but I'm not the majority so...

lcfc_jme Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 me too, my knipper will have noone to play out with though at this rate! Sad state of affairs. I'd feel sorry for him/her. I remember when I was younger (which, being nearly 17, wasn't that long ago), everybody was out playing all the time and nobody really used to want to be stuck indoors all the time. Parents used to encourage their children to go out and play and obesity wasn't as severe an issue as it is now.

lcfc_jme Posted 3 October 2006 Posted 3 October 2006 Indeed. Sad, isn't it Well it will be when you walk round estates and past parks and see they have been abandoned with nobody on them any more 'cos parents are wrapping their fat children in dozens of sheeps worth of cotton wool, and you remember when you were younger and it was the complete opposite. Especially when it comes to the point where your child has no friends to go out and play with.

Guest Posted 4 October 2006 Posted 4 October 2006 My great-uncle was suspected of being murdered by a paedophile back in the 1920's. They didn't have the forensic know how to arrest the man let alone charge him. Yet do parents think their offspring are better protected now?
