lcfcalan Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 no dont, i finally found atleast 2 others that want williams in the side... I am on the side of Williams in the side as well , from what I have seen of him he gets my vote. No he aint a Garry Parker, but he plays a steady game IMO. I really cant see why he gets so much 'bad press'
jan Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 I want Williams in the side as well. So you can make it three. Can we find a fourth before I close this? You can add me to the list. I consider Williams as a great player who should be respected the way he is, as he gives the squad something special. I hope he will return soon from injury.

newms Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 williams is a flair type player and will therefore obviously drift in and out of games, muzzy did the same, the only diff i can see is that we didnt sign muzzy from forest... dont make me laugh.
jan Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 indeed, his hair styles are always 100% unlike etc..... So that's at least something, don't you think
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 Jono had a spell in the second half where he was winning everyyhing -just after the tackle, he nearly played in Fryatt too with a decent pass. Williams has got quality but he drifts in and out of games. As Johnson gets fitter I think he'll win everyone over. Good on you mate, very good observation. He did look very good for a good 10 minute spell where he ran the team, he's overall second half was above average, and apart from a couple of half decent passes he had a pretty poor first half. I would still expect alot more for him but he was one of the better players on the pitch tonight. Don't let the bandwagoners get at you. EDIT: Im getting seriously annoyed by people taking none stop shots at him (Johnson) espically after tonight. If you want to scapegoat someone for tonights match scapegoat Hughes. Or prehaps Fryatt for not putting the ball in the net the three or four times it was laid on a plate for him.
Lichfieldfox. Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 What game was the thread starter watching? Johnson was utter pants bar a 10 minute spell in second half. The failure of the midfield to breakdown Hull was apparant for all to see. There was no creativity apart from Porter, who never featured after half time.Movement was zero and the team lacked leadership in midfield. Hume tried his socks off once O'Grady came on but was clearly frustrated by the apathy of Hughes and Johnson. Put me down on the pro -Williams list. How come Nissa only passed to Porter twice in the whole match. Tiatto may be a better bet at left back.
Babylon Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 am i alone in thinking we are badly missing williams' rang of passing, like him or not he is the best passer we have and can unlock any defence in thisleague Well we didn't win any games when he did play either.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 I thought Johnson was our MOM last night - I couldn'ty believe people coming out of the ground behind us said he was rubbish. He WAS the midfield for the second half. Hughes may as well not have been on the pitch - deserves dropping for a long time after that dreadful fee kick with around five minutes to go. He generally looked lightweight and uncommitted all night. Trouble is, who do we replace him with? We'll say the same about Williams after a couple of games, and everyone here will be saying "bring back Hughesy". Neither of them is good enough. Wesolowski and Johnson would be my bet - at least both will get stuck in. Neither may be the "creative maestro" we want but, let's face it, we haven't got one in our squad. Get two tacklers in the middle, start to control the games and let Hume and the wingers supply the flair. Low looked out of his depth (for the first time, IMO) but, worringly, uncommitted too. Shirked a few tackles and didn't run enough. Probably still our best option on the right, though. Johansson is diabolical and the cause of a lot of our problems. For some reason, he seems to get a lot of the ball but just hoofs it every time. None of the other defenders were much better for distribution last night - we need to get used to winning and keeping the ball. Ultimately, Hull were very poor and we just looked clueless.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 Trouble is, who do we replace him with? We'll say the same about Williams after a couple of games, and everyone here will be saying "bring back Hughesy". Neither of them is good enough. Absolutely bang on the money.
Floating Fox Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 am i alone in thinking we are badly missing williams' rang of passing, like him or not he is the best passer we have and can unlock any defence in thisleague No youre not alone. I agree, despite me not liking him I think we miss him
Guest Gist Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 I thought Johnson was shocking last night he takes to long on the ball our midfield is such a problem at the minute.
London_Fox Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 Wesolowski and Johnson would be my bet - at least both will get stuck in. Get two tacklers in the middle, start to control the games and let Hume and the wingers supply the flair. I would agree with the concept of two hard midfield players battling for possesion IF we had wingers who could provide flair. It's too early to put all that pressure on Porter and Low doesn't seem to be that kind of player to me. I'm not sure why we don't switch to playing with wingbacks again. The squad seems to have players better suited to that anyway now (both NEJ and Stearman want to play in the middle and as part of three would do better, Tiatto would be a better wingback then winger, Hughes/Williams both need two strong central midfielders to cover them which will give them the space to be creative and allow them to drift in and out which they do anyway). Certainly worth a shot in my opinion...
Vo Rogue Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 This is what I can't understand. Everyone here knows how highly I rate Weso and so probably thinks I'm biased but when you're sat on the bench watching someone who is sooo focking shite its unreal surely you must be wondering if you're at the right club? I would say it may cross his mind. When I and my mate watched him warming up during the game he looked like a prized fighter up for a World Title fight. He was rippling with energy and I think he was right up for that game last night. Absolute shame he didn't get 20-25 minutes. Think it would have been the lift the team needed.

Certainly worth a shot in my opinion... Absolutely. Maybury and Tiatto would be the best options for that role, while Kenton would provide mobility as a covering centre-back. Hume, Weso and Porter would be an energetic and creative trio, but perhaps a shade too lightweight for Kelly's tastes. But it's hard to see how they could do worse than the dire duo of Johnson and Hughes.

I agree with the rest of it and I can see the merit of 3-5-2 but do we have to put up with Maybury and Tiatto again? Stearman and Sheehan. Everyone is rubbish but I mind less when they are rubbish cos they should improve over time. I know this is dependent on Sheehan returning from his loan but 3-5-2 is as pie-in-the-sky as that is, if you get my meaning.

I agree with the rest of it and I can see the merit of 3-5-2 but do we have to put up with Maybury and Tiatto again? On the evidence of the last two games it would certainly appear so. Stearman isn't a wingback and should not be treated as such. He's better off as a third centre-back or perhaps even a holding midfielder.
TrickyTrev Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 Are you havin a bubble? The guy is SHOCKING. He made one good tackle all night and for the rest was an ineffetive passanger. <_<
Ultra Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 If you're talking about Stearman, I agree entirely. That's why I said he isn't a wingback.
Knighton Matt Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 This thread has got me absolutely enraged!!! Andy Johnson's performance last night was nothing short of disgusting. Talk about a bottler. If he never plays another game for us I'd be delighted. To those of you saying he's a decent performer - I urge you to actually just watch him and ignore the action at our next home game. The guy should be screaming out for the ball as the experienced CM in the team...looking to take it off the CB's and build attacks from the back. But what does he do? Just stands there not wanting the ball. Yes yes he makes a few good tackles but as an attacking force he is a total passenger. A bystander. A bottler. I find it disgusting. And then people have a go at Hughes? Wtf? Hughes was doing what every good centre mid should do...come and take the ball off the CB's and look to start attacks. OK so he didn't have a brilliant game but he covered nearly every blade of grass tonight and whipped in a few decent corners to boot. Seriously though Johnson? Disgusting. A bottler and if I had my way he'd never play for City again.
Loake Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 IMO Andy Johnson was not the worst performer last night! I'm not saying he is brilliant, but we haven't got any better central midfielders (other than a fully fit Weso). Williams is a frustrating player and as others have said we will want HIM out the team after he plays a couple. I think we just have to accept that we are not going to be able to attract quality midfielders to the club with our lack of funds. So settle for Johnson, he's not that bad and we can't do better.
Swedging Posted 13 September 2006 Posted 13 September 2006 I thought Johnson was our MOM last night Not quite - but not far off. The good things he did: Mostly close passing to keep possession. The occasional long pass that worked well. The one to Kenton in the first half sticks out. Had Kenton been a forward, that would have been a goal. Moving around and thus providing an option for Kis and Paddy Mac as well as Hughes. Really taking charge in the last 15 minutes when the rest of the team were losing their heads. Sitting as the man back behind the (taller) centre backs so they could get forward and challenge for the balls that were pinging in high. Good decision-making there, I thought - even though things were desperate. The bad: Too many high and hopeful punts. Some woefully weighted through/long balls. But definitely the best match he's played for us, and promising for the future.

A bottler and if I had my way he'd never play for City again. He hasn't got the legs to play two games in four days. There were long spells in the game when he never went past the centre circle. He also had to have Hume do his chasing back for him, thus limiting our options in attack. I had hoped he'd be a mentor for Weso, but after Tuesday night I seriously doubt that. He looks like one of the clutch of players that Micky Adams brought in during his last months, a hasbeen looking for one last payday. In other words, another Dion Dublin. The feature he did living it up at Rockingham racetrack didn't do him any favours either.
danny_foxes Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 andy johnson cant pass and he makes the odd good tackle which isnt good enough, you need to be doing that all match. i agree, williams should be in the team if he is fit on saturday because we miss his passing and he is the best passer at the club. williams and weso!
