yes.. but he's still a defender. The fact that he is attack mind is a bonus, a luxury in fact, but the position is Left defence. I despise nils playing for our team, for the reason that contradicts what i've just said in that he is too defensive minded. But you cant just judge a defender on assissts, preventing the other team from scoring is, believe it or not, part of the game of football.

Hey Benji, I'm not having a go at you. I'm just trying to get Leicester City to understand that when we've done our defending, when we've got the ball, everyone needs to be able to support the attacks.

The present situation where we've got a decent defence, a harrassing but otherwise unimaginative midfield and a frustrated attack has got to end.

There's got to be people who link the units together properly.

I'm serious. It doesn't HAVE to be Sheehan. If we can get a defender for free who's as good as Nils at thwarting attacks and as good as Sheehan at starting em then I'll be perfectly happy.

Bit like a left-footed Stearman, you mean?

:P So long as we all agree nils can leave

Well I was at the game today and he looked ordinary at best.

The overall standard was woeful.

What position did he play and did he not make the goals?

Or was he simply woeful apart from that?

In which case, and assuming he's really gone downhill since last September as you suggest, then we need an attacking full-back from somewhere just as we have done for over 12 months.

Shocking thought really.

PS: While you're around, can you tell us what position he played?.

Serious question. What about Mattock? Impressed me today. I know he's fairly young but so is Gareth Bale.

JonBlueFox of someone else might have an opinion. I've not seen Mattock play that often. And when I have the focus has been so much on attack that the defenders barely got noticed.

He's the answer to all our problems. :yesyes:

You're missing out. Big time.

http://www.stagsnet.net/match/reports/stagsreports.php

and for those to lazy to read through it all

Sheehan 8 Very accomplished debut, good on the ball and rarely wasted a pass

Sheehan 7 Again showed his class with several vital interceptions

Alan Sheehan 6 at fault for the goal but linked up well with Jelleyman

Sheehan (for Mullins, 33) 5 Missed penalty. Did not look impressive at centre half

Sheehan 7 Defended well, and linked impressively with Jelleyman down the left.

Sheehan 6 Generally did ok

Sheehan 5 Struggled and his two free kick attempts were woeful

So by looking at those match reports maybe RK is right not to have him in the first team JUST yet

Cannot understand them playing him at centre-back. Leicester tried it but it simply wastes what he's generally good at. He's not really aggressive enough for a centre-back. Yes, he plunges in for occaionally reckless tackles but at his best, he's a cultured, creative player rather than one who mixes it.

Some of you act like Sheehan can be our saviour and as soon as he comes back, our problems will be solved. He's not really that good! :pinch:

I agree that Sheehan is an OK player, but lets face it- when he used to be in our 1st XI for a while last season he wasn't brilliant and even managed to get himself sent off against Crewe. So what- he has a decent free kick- wow.

Hopefully his loan spell will do him some good like it maybe did with COG and Conrad. Kelly has given COG, Conrad and Levi chances in the 1st team and Stearman is also a product of our academy so maybe Sheehan is in our 1st team plans for the future.

The experience he will gain from League Two is valuable but the difference in quality compared to The Championship is a big step.

I hope you don't implicate me in that. I've never suggested nor do I think he'll be any sort of saviour.

I think he can be a quality full-back but what's really important is not whether Sheehan fills out left-back role but completing our transformation from a drably unambitious team of worker bees unto an efficient team of inspired and determined attackers.

To do that we'll need attacking full-backs who can pass, creative midfielders who can pass and score plus fast and perisitent wingers who aren't afraid to get into the penalty area and shoot.

At least his sending off was for a tackle and not for having a go at the referee or the linesman unlike our current captain, criticise the guy for his ability but to bring in a single sending off as part of the justification for not playing him defies all logic when so many players miss games for this very reason.

You never said he was "the key to our attacking fluidity" then?:D

I still think he would be "a key" to exactly that. But if he's not good enough we need someone else to fill that role. There are other keys we need to find as badly now.

In fairness I agree. Watching Johansson trying to provide an overlap for Porter is like Adolf Hitler having a cameo appearance in The Bible.

I'm not a religious man, I can afford to make glib remarks like that. :D

Seriously though, seeing NEJ gallop forward like a three-legged donkey makes me wonder how bad Tiatto could possibly be at left-back. :pinch: :pinch: :pinch:

I think Tiatto's height is the problem. We're a small enough side and Nils gives us a more in the air than ever Danny would. That and Nils is not so reckless.

Again agreed, and I don't think Tiatto is good enough going forward to compensate for compromising our defence, which is after all pretty sound. It'd be pretty handy if Sheehan came back from his loan and did a Logan (we've been agreeing far too much lately else I'd say an O'Grady :D).

That, and compared to Tiatto, Nissa is as tough as old boots - he can at least last the 90 minutes without his hamstring tightening on him.

Since when did people stop criticising NEJ?? Not too long ago people were calling for him to leave the club and be left out of the side 'cos he was that bad :S:o

The thing which worries me is our team coming up with a bit of cash and attempting to renew his contract, 'cos that way I don't see Sheehan getting his chance and Nils will be a permanent figure in our side next term as well :(

thats because nissa cant run fast enough to make his hamstring tighten
