Babylon Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 I might be being mischievous but if he played as badly as some have said, having been a MoM in one game and in the League's Team of the Day so recently, could it be at all possible he's trying to work a move?. Surely not and why would you want to voluntarily slip down two divisions. But it all seems strange to me. The lad is a genuinely capable player. Why would his form be so eratic and why would he play so apparently badly in front of Kelly. In all the games I've watched him in, while he might have made misjudgements, he was constantly involved and often joined attacks to provide an attacking threat. His free-kicks were also consistently dangerous. Yet even that seems to have strangely deserted him. Doesn't make sense to me. Talent doesn't just disappear. Many are still wondering if he has any talent. So he is playing badly now because he wants a move? And people say some on here make excuses for Kelly!!!!!!!

Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 It's a shame that posts like that are the things people remember. That's just ludicrous.
Thracian Posted 9 October 2006 Author Posted 9 October 2006 Many are still wondering if he has any talent. So he is playing badly now because he wants a move? And people say some on here make excuses for Kelly!!!!!!! You saying that confuses me even more. Shirtliff must have rated him to have singed him on loan in the first place. And he has now extended the loan. Another poster who knows Kelly says the manager rates him and Kelly gave him an a new contract last spring. Forum fans last season voted him overwhelmingly as our best choice for left-back at one stage and I thought he looked potentially one of the best left-backs I've seen at the club at one stage. You may wonder if he's got any talent - and I respect that opinion - but Saturday's apparently "bad" performance still strikes me as strange, as does his obvious lack of consistency which doesn't sound like the player I watched in the first half of last season at all.

Babylon Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Shirtliff must have rated him to have singed him on loan in the first place. And he has now extended the loan. Divison 4 Forum fans last season voted him overwhelmingly as our best choice for left-back. What exactly were they voting on as they hadn't seen him play. I don't mean offence, but lots of the people on here who say he is our best left back and should be in the team just follow what you say. You may wonder if he's got any talent I'm sure he does have some talent, otherwise he would most probably have been let go by now. ut Saturday's apparently "bad" performance still strikes me as strange, as does his obvious lack of consistency which doesn't sound like the player I watched in the first half of last season at all. Players can have bad spells, the best talent in our country is having a bad patch (Rooney). Class is permanent, form is temporary. I probably seem like a right skeptic, but I have heard all these stories before about young players and how good they are. People have said they are so much better than what we have, I can't remember many of them going on to prove it with us or another team. If the player is good enough and better than what we have they WILL get their chance.
Thracian Posted 9 October 2006 Author Posted 9 October 2006 He wouldn't be the first player to show alot of potential and dissapoint Do you mean a bit like Hughesy and Johnson? .
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Do you mean a bit like Hughesy and Johnson? . In all seriousness I ment exactly like Hughesy. I've come to the conclusion that Johnson just doesn't care.
lcfc_jme Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Do you mean a bit like Hughesy and Johnson? . He couldn't possibly be that much of a flop could he?!?!

Re your second point: I think the fans on here are well capable of forming their own opinions about players and have also shown themselves more than willing to argue the toss if they disagree with my view. You vastly overrate my invluence. I well understand your "scepticism". As you say, many potential footballers blossom only to fade in an instance but I don't know about everyone inevitably getting their chance. Sometimes senior players just block the way rather like Bill Anderson will have blocked the way for any aspiring journalist, no matter how talented, from writing about Leicester City these last umpteen years. It's the way it works sometimes. Life isn't always fair by a long way. Dodds might - and I only say might - feel that way considering the lack of goals from our strikers this season.

You vastly overrate my invluence. I think you vastly under rate your influence!! Honestly!! If you started calling for a certain player to start playing, say King for arguments sake. If you made your case like you did with Sheehan, well written posts and lots of them. I would bet there would be a big upturn in supprt of him getting a chance. It has happened in the past with other players (Wright) when a couple of people called for his inclusion on a constant basis he started to get a wave of support. You are smart, well educated and respected... people listen to what you say. Even though you are prone to the odd wacky comment

I enjoy reading Thracian's comments and believe he has a lot of valid points. I do sometimes agree with his selection of players because of it. Not always, though. And I can safely say I got the Mattock bandwagon rolling, not Thracian. (Beat you to that one, matey!)
Swedging Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Life isn't always fair by a long way. Dodds might - and I only say might - feel that way considering the lack of goals from our strikers this season. That looks a bad call. Dodds out on loan to prove he can do it in real matches? Looks to me like an invitation for the first team if he can deliver.

Afterall, it's "Only the Conference, or a division thereof"
Thracian Posted 10 October 2006 Author Posted 10 October 2006 That looks a bad call. Dodds out on loan to prove he can do it in real matches? Looks to me like an invitation for the first team if he can deliver. Maybe but I'd be much more convinced if he was going better than where he's been proving he can score for years. I think it's simply to keep him fit and occupied because City have nowhere for him to play below first team level and I doubt he's fit/sharp enough for that right now after so much match day idleness. One things for sure. Even if he scores a bagful Manwell will be on here saying its got no relevence - it's only in the Conference!!.

They have a game tonight by the way, Exeter away. So Dodds wont have to wait long for his debut.

So Dodds wont have to wait long for his debut. interesting. He should be able to score in that division with relative simplicity, providing he is given a decent service. After all, without a decent service, the striker is always going to find it hard to score, no matter what level he is playing at. (Fryatt and Hume so far this term, Rooney in an England shirt etc etc..)
lookwhaticando Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 I'll be pleased if you find some more too. I'm also toying with the idea of backing Smedley - he's been around the block a few times with the Academy, he must be worth a shout at some point. And Magunda - a RB if memory serves - he'd be a great substitute for Stearman. What a threat to his position - if you don't pick your game up, someone even younger will take your spot. I wonder if the Vics game will have online commentary?

I wonder if the Vics game will have online commentary? Joe Magunda's come on great but still has some way to go. He supports well but is still learning positionally which will come as his anticipation and reading of situations improves, and with his choice and execution of the final pass. But, lots of promise and an excellent temperament from what I've seen. He seems consistent, he just plays his game, works well with the team and never seems to get involved with anything other than his job.

It was the only time I've seen him, but he put a late stamp in on a Hinckey player long after the ball went in the pre-season friendly - caused a right ruck! He seemed to have a bit of promise otherwise.
