gatesheadfox Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 there is an article in the mercury (thursday) that says Leicester have a good "die-hard" fan base. travelling to 23 home and away games each totalling £1500ish for an adult. or was it £2500? (per season). either way i'd say we have a big fan base as our nearest rivals are 20 odd miles away. wow, if it was only £2500 per season for me i'd be well chuffed, unfortunately its not. slightly more expensive for myself. i believe there is a great number of die hard fans as you always see the same people at away games with a few additional unseen faces.
Tommeh Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Bizarrely, when I went to Ibiza, I saw a fair few of the usual suspects Man Utd/Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal. Surprisingly though, I saw LOADS of Leicester fans. I saw at least 5 or 6 in our hotel alone. I saw a few more out and about and an Ibizan car had LCFC BABYSQUAD written in to the dirt on the windscreen! I always write stuff like that on locals cars on holiday! One car had over 50 clubs on it out of the 92 footie league clubs
SystonFox Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Agree about the die hard fans but our total (or potential) fan base is much bigger than that. Have you ever queued over night to try and get tickets to get tickets for Wembley? They're snapped up within hours and the 40k could easily be sold three times over. Many fans only go to a few games a season so when we were averaging nearly 30k a week that didn't mean we had 30k fans but probably around 80 - 90k many of whom only go to a few games each. I'd put our core fanbase at about 15-20 thousand. Then another 20-30 thousand predominantly fair weather fans who will go to most games when things are good on top of that but probably another 100,000 again who will sometimes go to games and could well come out of the woodwork more if we had some success / more affordable prices. tbh i never queue'd for my wembley trips (twice) my dad got them off mel the tannoy man. (Hello everyone!) id agree with the figures you give about our fanbase. personally i go to all home games as a STH including cup games and i tend to do pick and choose a few away games per season as i cant afford or dont have time to do all 23 away games.
FNQ Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 100% honestly - I saw more LCFC fans in Germany this summer at the World Cup than any other English club fans. It was bizarre. This simply is not true. It just appeared that way. This phenomina has a name I'm sure of it.
Daggers Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 I think our fanbase is massive, I alone count for 57 stone of it.
Thracian Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 has anyone noticed whenver they go on holiday to anywhere you always find a couple of leicester fans Yeah there were two on the Dogger Bank after the Colchester match - waiting for the tide to come in!
john_lcfc Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 I always write stuff like that on locals cars on holiday! One car had over 50 clubs on it out of the 92 footie league clubs i always write stuff like that about us aswell on holiday in etc in dust... not graffiti i must add
Tommeh Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 i always write stuff like that about us aswell on holiday in etc in dust... not graffiti i must add same ere On our holiday this year we were 2 blocks away from these other city fans from Hinckley and another set just round the beach. We have a much bigger fan base club than prem teams such as: charlton, Blackburn, Bolton, wigan, Pompey, Reading, Watford, Middlesborough, and most championship clubs with the exception of Leeds, Sunderland, Shef Wed and Brum..... ..... Cue people to come in and disagree! go for it!!
Daggers Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 ..... Cue people to come in and disagree! go for it!! Nah, totally agree...but I think you missed Barca, Milan and Real off the list.
Tommeh Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Nah, totally agree...but I think you missed Barca, Milan and Real off the list. tbh DB I was actually being serious
Ultra Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 same ere On our holiday this year we were 2 blocks away from these other city fans from Hinckley and another set just round the beach. Tommeh Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 yeah these clubs have the same prolem as us though - attracting fans when the club isn't livin up to it's reputation. Obviously our ticket prices and all tickets prices in football are silly but Leeds and Brums are pure madness
Foxes_Trust Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 we have a good fan base of about 16,000 who will turn up rain or shine. We do have the fans who will turn up when things are good and we get to cup finals and play off finals etc which means 40,000. sheff wed is a good example, play off final, over 40,000, average gate this season 20,000 and when the club nearly goes out of existance, we have 3,200 who could be bothered to join the Trust.
Ultra Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Isn't it still the the biggest Trust in this division though?

lildave3 Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Leeds is a bit carried away but Birmingham are having people's pants down with their prices to watch that sort of standard in this division - it isn't on Their board must take note soon. When we played them they were 2nd in the league yet there was only 18,000 turned up. If they want to get promoted, they will have to lower ticket prices and get the gates back up.
lcfc_jme Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Their board must take note soon. When we played them they were 2nd in the league yet there was only 18,000 turned up. If they want to get promoted, they will have to lower ticket prices and get the gates back up. I reckon they'll still go up, I don't think there's any doubt about that. But you're right, their board does need to take note. They are losing out on a LOT of gate receipts by charging such ludicrous prices for sh!tty football. A local derby against us when we're struggling and they're 2nd in the league only attracting 18,000 says an awful lot about what their fans must be thinking about ticket prices... Reckon they've got clones of our marketing people?!
Ultra Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 I reckon they'll still go up, I don't think there's any doubt about that. A lot of brummies I know aren't as convinced. They reckon it's only a matter of time before they slide down the league. And if you think we give RK a hard time, you should hear what they say about Steve Bruce!
lcfc_jme Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 A lot of brummies I know aren't as convinced. They reckon it's only a matter of time before they slide down the league. And if you think we give RK a hard time, you should hear what they say about Steve Bruce! I think most things we say about RK are justified. When we criticise his tactics or his team selections, 9 times out of 10 I think most fans are sure he's got it wrong, or when he appears to have got it right, his tactics don't suit the side he's picked. As for Birmingham sliding down the league, I can't see it myself. They may have a dip in form but I'd still tip them for automatic promotion. And I'm not suprised the Brummies are giving the gaffer a hard time - with their squad and the quality available to them, you'd expect them to be pretty much walking this division
Ultra Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 They didn't look that great against us. We'd probably have seen them off easily if we'd had a half-decent midfield. And as we know only too well, it's very possible for teams to under-achieve in this league.

And as we know only too well, it's very possible for teams to under-achieve in this league. That it is, it's just something tells me that Birmingham will be up there fighting for the top two spots come the end of the season, and I have a strong feeling (even though they look poor/average in their games) that they'll go straight back up. It is very easy to underachieve in this league. Three or four bad results in a row can cause you to drop down a fair few places in the league, especially now as it's still early doors. That's why if we can get it together pretty soon, we can be upper mid-table in no time at all. Optimistic I know, but that's what a couple of good results on the bounce can do for you early in this league.
