Rincewind Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 A church is a place of sanctuary and priests do not have to divulge anything they hear in confession. I would have thought before entering any establishment be it a religious place club etc. the police would approach it with caution. If it was a raid where several suspects were present then yes they would probably charge in. If it was one individual then they would ask for that person to come outside so as not to frighten or disturb others present. What has been suggested is not that police do not arrest anyone but they do not do it in a way that'll cause trouble and conflict between Muslims and the police which I expect them to do do already.. All Muslims are not criminals so this type of thing would be a rare occurance. As for doing a runner out the back door I would have thought the police would have all exits covered. The police have to be careful when making any arrest for fear of counter charges.

The police have to be careful when making any arrest for fear of counter charges. As I said: Surely a "request for sensitivity" should be considered before every arrest of any kind? Why do they even need to mention it? It should be part of standard police practice for all individuals/groups of people. This is either a case of opening your mouth and putting your foot in it or they are seeking to treat Muslims differently. Either way they've messed up.
Lemon Harpic Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 The british police are the best in the world Apart from the Metropolitan Police Service, obviously. And the Greater Manchester Police. And Leicestershire Constabulary. In fact, a 2004 study by the Commission for Racial Equality showed that all but one of the 43 forces and authorities in England and Wales are failing in their legal duty towards ethnic communities. The sad thing is, you are probably still correct in saying that the British police are the best in the world.
gatesheadfox Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 Gatesheadfox, you sure they didn't start taking there clothes, you know.....you sure they weren't hired as strippers.....anyhow i'm sure you had a great birhday!!!!! they were two youngish policewomen so i wish thats what did happen. i was given a telling off (which they later took back) and was allowed to go and have a chinese and beers in town, then i topped off the night by being smacked in the face

I agree, they are not perfect and have not just failed ethnic minorities but the general public, social standards and general courtesy for others have dropped in conjunction with the local bobby (policeman). Local policing is near zero in large parts of the country, which has lead to people including youths taking full advantage. But is this a fault of the policing authorities or governance or funding etc!!!!!

Lemon Harpic Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 But is this a fault of the policing authorities or governance or funding etc!!!!! I think the problem is that racist police officers (as in the Met and GMP) and police officers who are extraordinarily bad at their jobs and don't give a toss (Leicestershire Constabulary, take a bow) are being funded. The position of police officer, with it's uniform and sense of power, appeals to a certain personality type. Police officers, for this reason, will always be "Little Hitlers" so we should not be surprised when some are exposed as being racist and uncaring.

I suppose your correct in a sense, the current recruitment drive of officers has let in alot of personalities that shouldn't be in the force, and the fact that the force are probably sweeping the problem under carpet in fear of a 'media leak' and exposure, rather then tackling the problem head on!!! By no means this is the majority of officers!!
Milky Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 my dad sais that when he was younger, most the people that he knew that went into the police force were the ignorant, thicko trouble maker types. The wage just wasn't big enough at the time, and so people with brain power set their sites on other things.

Lemon Harpic Posted 25 October 2006 Posted 25 October 2006 Surprisingly Lemon Harpic Leicestershire COnstabulary is deemed one of the best in the country!! The same police force in which officers watch porn films on night shifts, fetch takeaways while pretending to be busy, treat domestic rape as "petty", ignore 999 calls near the end of their shifts, play late night games of "hide-and-seek" in their squad cars, and boast about leaving a man bleeding in the street so they could watch a World Cup football match? If that's one of the good ones, I shudder to think what the bad ones are like.

You right LH, people abuse privileges in all occupations and positions but this is abit much, considering even doctors and nurses work double shifts, long hours night and day to help those in need!!!!
