lookwhaticando Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 We do seem to sit back a lot, generally and particularly towards the end. Unless we are behind and desperately to score that equaliser/winner in the dying minutes of the game. I think it's natural for a team to fall back a bit when they have a lead. The difference is some teams are encouraged not to fall back into their own half easily. It's a mentality thing for sure. The team needs to be encouraged to remain higher up the pitch when they have the lead.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Tactically we're a bloody disgrace. What a cock up. No one concedes consistently in the dying minutes of a match. "Settles" for a draw says the OS, I think RL has it right - we threw 2 pts away.
lcfc_jme Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 We're 6 points behind the sheep. A win against Preston next week and a win against the sheep the week after, and we'll be smiling. However, I do not think we'll do it as both are playing half decent football this season, and we cannot defend when we score. Not to mention the sheep game is away.

But given our record to date, perhaps we should consider getting a two goal lead before falling back. And even then we need to keep awake!!!
MC Prussian Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 This is just the perfect occasion for a bottle of Weizen and some food to devour the frustration after we've given away yet another two points. I should stop listening to the LCFC commentary, otherwise I'll end up with a heart surgery earlier than I'm actually supposed to... And I don't like hospitals at all. We lack a leader on the pitch, a player who can take over the real role of a captain. Our squad is too young and we've got a few hotshots losing their temper and concentration way too easily, Paddy's booking was completely unnecessary.

But given our record to date, perhaps we should consider getting a two goal lead before falling back. And even then we need to keep awake!!! That's my point - the management may not have told the players to fall back, but have not yet done enough to encourage them not to do so. If they teach the players to keep their line and not drop deep all the time things would look a little better.

Our squad is too young and we've got a few hotshots, Paddy's booking was completely unnecessary. I can kind of understand his reaction (partly), but it did not help. What Paddy should do in these cases is: - stop visualising the opponents' imminent goal - keep his cool / concentration - stop creating a diversion that does not help the rest of our defence do their job properly

Billy Davies is doing a great job with Derby and we all thought he would. anyone that thought he wouldnt was being very naive. thats the difference in this league, they have a quality manager and we have a mediocre coach.
lcfc_jme Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 That's my point - the management may not have told the players to fall back, but have not yet done enough to encourage them not to do so. I think that conceding late goals and having late scares, costing us points and getting suspensions for our players would be encouragement enough to push up the field and try to keep the ball in their half. If our players do not understand this, one would have to question their intelligence and mental state.
Brummie-FOX Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Well This joins the list of games we should have won along with; Leicester v Burnley Leicester v Hull Leicester v Colchester Leicester v Crystal Palace QPR v Leicester 18 points maybe.. You can't win all the games but the teams up there really are teams we can beat on our day.

If they teach the players to keep their line and not drop deep all the time things would look a little better. Then, we are in agreement

What Paddy should do in these cases is: - stop visualising the opponents' imminent goal - keep his cool / concentration - stop creating a diversion that does not help the rest of our defence do their job properly another reason why McCarthy is extremely over-rated, needless fouls and bookings is very frustrating. RK or whoever is in charge needs to bring an experienced centre back to play alongside Kisnorbo with Mandaric's money.
Thracian Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 I think it's natural for a team to fall back a bit when they have a lead. The difference is some teams are encouraged not to fall back into their own half easily. It's a mentality thing for sure. The team needs to be encouraged to remain higher up the pitch when they have the lead. You're right but it's wrong and invariably results in disaster. The manager defines the tactics when the score changes. I felt there was trouble ahead when the commentator said we committed only four people to our free-kick for the foul on Stearman. What a message that sent. We should have gone for the throat and kept pressing to deny the opposition time and space.
MC Prussian Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Thing is, the players have been through similar experiences before, but obviously haven't learnt a bit from them... History repeating and a somewhat characterless display today. We could really use a player with enough experience, one who knows what to do in those kind of situations.
Brummie-FOX Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Billy Davies is doing a great job with Derby and we all thought he would. anyone that thought he wouldnt was being very naive. thats the difference in this league, they have a quality manager and we have a mediocre coach. Thing is, 2-3 years ago, wasn't Davies just an unheard of assistant manager?
lookwhaticando Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 I think that conceding late goals and having late scares, costing us points and getting suspensions for our players would be encouragement enough to push up the field and try to keep the ball in their half. If our players do not understand this, one would have to question their intelligence and mental state. It's the fear that leads them to fall deeper into their own half. They seem to think defending in numbers is the answer. Clearly it's not.

I never once insulted the job Billy Davies is doing with Derby. I just now feel that the away trip to Derby is all the more important, yet at the same time a lot harder for us to take anything from- which goes some way to expressing what I think about BD's job at the club. There is nothing stopping us from being a top-half team under Kelly, as we showed towards the end of last season and at times during this. I just have to question Kelly's approach to the game and his mentality as the game wears on.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 another reason why McCarthy is extremely over-rated, needless fouls and bookings is very frustrating. RK or whoever is in charge needs to bring an experienced centre back to play alongside Kisnorbo with Mandaric's money. We already have a readily available CB - McAuley.
lcfc_jme Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 It's the fear that leads them to fall deeper into their own half. They seem to think defending in numbers is the answer. Clearly it's not. You have answered the question yourself. They think defending in numbers is the answer, but it so evidently isn't. Like I say, if they cannot work this out and see this for themselves, then I would seriously want to examine what is going on in their minds, 'cos it seems as though everybody can see it but the players and management. Even the opposition can see it ffs!!
MC Prussian Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 First move by Mandaric - he hires a mental coach (for kiddies).
Stevosevic Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 We already have a readily available CB - McAuley. is he actually good enough though to help us to promotion? no, i dont think so
cisono Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 We already have a readily available CB - McAuley. I thought you'd point him out
cisono Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 First move by Mandaric - he hires a mental coach (for kiddies). I offer my services
lookwhaticando Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 is he actually good enough though to help us to promotion? no, i dont think so Some people had been saying McCarthy/Kisnorbo was a first rate partnership after their extended run of games together. Who's to say that McAuley/Kisnorbo is no better? Perhaps if they get a long run of games going together at the back, we'll be able to assess how good the partnership really is, and if McCarthy really has any part to play at CB. I thought you'd point him out I think we have some quality players - particularly at CB. Some people seem to want a complete change in playing staff, but I don't agree with that at all.
lcfc_jme Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 A mental coach would be good. Some video replays of late scares and late conceded goals leading to us dropping points would also be nice. A creative midfielder would also be high on my list of priorities as well, as we didn't create many chances today either.
