I can't describe how angry I am today

My friend from Singapore Wan Kääng arrived at Heathrow at around 5:50AM today

Around 10:30 I got a phone call from the immigration dept asking if anyone I know is due to arrive in the UK today

Cautiously I said yes and was then bombarded with questions about myself as well as about Wan (Pronounced One)

Around 4PM I was informed that Wan had been refused entry to the UK as he was suspected to be an illegal immigrant based on the following:

• His return flight is not until January
  
• He didn't have a lot of money with him (He saved for ages for the flights)
  
• He hasn't had a job since September
  
• One of the people he was going to stay with in the UK is a suspected illegal immigrant
  

As I type this he is on a flight back to Singapore

The poor bástard - He's never been on a plane before, takes a 13 hour flight to UK, spends 10 hours in a police cell and is then put back on a plane for the 11 hour journey back to Singapore

These immigration officials are clueless

because people wanting to come into the country illigally are going to wander through immigration and not in specially created hides in lorries!

besides (and i don't really know much re. singapore) i've seen several programmes about singapore and it seems (on tv at least) a rather nice (if hot and sticky) place

It sucks ársé - All down to the hype and hysteria around the numbers of people moving to the UK (legally) from Eastern Europe

The guy was coming over basically to see another part of the world and to meet up with some fiends he'd made online - Essentially a back packer

I think the fact that the place he was going to stay at in London is a squat has been used against him

It's actually two different names

Wan is the extremely shortened version of his full name

Kääng is his online name

So he is generally know as Wan Kääng

Sorry to hear about the plight of your friend DS. Your right of course , sucks arse is an apt phrase.

The panic within the ranks of those in authority is unbelievable, this of course has adverse affect on

those who just want to get on a bit and live a little.

It is a shame that the fools in charge would not or could not realise that to some degree, this man could be 'kept an eye on' through his having contacts in this country.

We can't let just anybody in, and you have to admit there does seem to be a few too many things about your friends claim for entry that don't add up.

There should be a system in place where they are given permission to stay here before they travel.

It must be gut wrenching for your friend but the streets of London are full of people who unfortunately don't play by the rules and it's people like your friend who suffer I'm afraid.

I do wish him all the best and hope this experience doesn't put him off trying to visit again.

And the fact that immigration officials were given full details of his itinery by me and this info was mirrored by the couple he was due to be staying with in Swansea is irrelevant huh?

Just two of the reasons why you say his stay was rejected

Either of those would set alarm bells ringing but with two he never really stood a chance and quite frankly I would have thought his friends in this country should have foreseen this and warned him before travelling.

It's so bloody obvious.

If you have little money on your arrival you are going to be questioned as to how your going to fund your three month stay.

It's not rocket science!

The harsh thing about this is, your friend is all legit and everything and has been sent back, yet the authorities know where there any many other illegal immigrants and are doing nothing about it.

ALot of my family members from my parents homeland Punjab have been sent back for alot minor reasons. I'm afraid immigration is one of those dept where you are guilty untill proven innocent. All I can say is that if you are a traveller from the far east is to have all boxes ticked on what immigration want whether it's the truth or not!! I suppose in defence of immigration they do not have the resources to investigate each case!!
