Daggers Posted 1 December 2006 Posted 1 December 2006 Rumours that the prosecution were chanting that this case was "unbeatable!" are reported to be absolute nonsense A DISGRACED Aston Villa player has been sacked after being jailed for four months for stealing £5,000 from a team-mate.Christian Kabeya, a Belgian youth international, had a promising future before being caught using the credit card of an unnamed team-mate. The 19-year-old reserve team player pleaded guilty to eight charges, including obtaining a money transfer from Barclays Bank and obtaining services by deception from Birmingham airline bmi baby. He has been sacked by the club for gross misconduct after stealing from the fellow reserve team player whose house he shared in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield. Kabeya, who represented Belgium at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level, was listed as living at 'no fixed address' at court. Club spokesman Phil Mepham said: "The facts speak for themselves. The player has been informed his employment has been terminated by Aston Villa FC for gross misconduct." Det Con Ian Jones, in charge of fraud cases for Sutton Coldfield CID, confirmed the player had been using a credit belonging to a colleague. He said: "The victim complained to the club, who then asked us to investigate." Kabeya, who was born in Kinshasa in The Democratic Republic of Congo, was signed on a scholarship deal from top-flight Belgian team, Excelsior Mouscron in 2003. It was then, as a 15-year-old, that Kabeya was described by manager Graham Taylor as a 'bright young talent". He helped the Aston Villa Academy team reach the final of the 2003/04 FA Youth Cup in his first season, which they later lost 3-0 and 1-0 (over two legs) to Middlesborough. In October the attacking midfielder scored his last goal for Villa Reserves in a 3-2 win over a West Ham second string team.
