cisono Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 This morning I was walking on the pavement when I realised I needed to go back home, so I was turning round on the spot when I felt something hitting the tip of my nose (pushing it from the left to the right side). It was a cyclist... he could have easily broken my nose or run into me! Now, I think most of us have at some point cycled on pavements but this one was certainly not allowing much space in his overtaking manoeuvre today. Has anyone had any similar experiences? PS: The pavement was rather wide, really don't understand how this happened... Luckily my nose is still ok though!

Thats the main thing the paths where i live are not very wide so u have to scare the living daylights out of the person u over take, very entertaing sometimes
Flynny Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 It depends on the cyclist. I quite often use my bike to get around and use the pavement all the time and I've never once even come close to injuring anyone. Some people are just idiots. I've nearly been hit by a couple of cyclists, both of whom seemed to be trying to brake by putting their feet on the ground instead of using actual brakes.

Flynny Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 ...and how big someone's nose is? Well if you've a beak the size of a puffin who's always telling lies, then I guess you're a little more prone to the odd incident.

Daggers Posted 14 January 2007 Posted 14 January 2007 I hope none of you lot walk on a cycle path, like, ever. Whoa - God will smite you if you do! Pedestrians would be a lot better off if they 'opened their eyes' and 'looked where they were going'.

Pedestrians would be a lot better off if they 'opened their eyes' and 'looked where they were going'. It's a natural human reaction that if you see a cycle path with a white line down the middle and a picture of a person on one wide and a bike on the other that you ALWAYS walk on the one with the cycle picture on!!! as a cyclist it simply infuriates me and they make now effort to move out of the way!!! and then look at you as if you are in the wrong!!! however as a Pedestrian I have sometimes found myself doing the same!!

As a cyclist, I happily use pavements when appropriate but I have never come close to running anyone over (or running into them). PS: I did get close to hitting this guy's bumper today, but that was just because he braked hard for no reason, leaving a couple of hundred yards' free road in front of him! (talk about being over-cautious)

(talk about being over-cautious) that's almost the same as a pedestrian stopping, and turning around, suddenly on a pavement, when you're approaching them from behind on a bike
cisono Posted 14 January 2007 Author Posted 14 January 2007 that's almost the same as a pedestrian stopping, and turning around, suddenly on a pavement, when you're approaching them from behind on a bike the HUGE difference is.... I did not hit him... I have good reflexes!
Daggers Posted 14 January 2007 Posted 14 January 2007 Yea, sorry about that Cis. I was just too busy thinking about road tax... Shocking behaviour. People like you should feel ashamed.
Bluefoxtim Posted 15 January 2007 Posted 15 January 2007 I remember when I was really young and went to London for the first time (that I can remember) I was walking past Buckingham Palace thinking how cool it looked and walked straight into a bollard. Cracked into jaw. Bloody well hurt
