stez Posted 20 January 2007 Posted 20 January 2007 In the words of Gervais.... are you avvin a laff! They are made from gossamer, held together by rust, the sub frames of 1970s Brithish motors need changing every year, have terrrible brakes and steering racks, you need to change the master cylinder and belt the minute you buy them, they need to be stripped and waxoyled every year, dry kept in a garage and unless you are a full time mechanic STAY CLEAR... German or Jap... trust me!!! I speak from experience of having seen MGs, Spitfire, Stags, Herald Vitesses, rotting on driveways with my Dad and Bro's and having had 3 classic Minis myself... DOnt get me wrong - GREAT FUN... but dont do it! i am, but i love the fact that they are dreadful cars yet, being british, the enthusiasts make do with the old sports cars, and always make sure they have a ready supply of tweed to mend them on the hoof. i still reckon david should get a stag. imagine the fun: david spys some likely looking fillies aside the country lane david: hey, ladies. fancy going for a spin in the stag? girls: of course, we love stags they hop in (munter in the back) fifteen yards down the road the stag splutters to a hault. david: oh bollux, i stopped and forgot to rewind the ammater, reloop the coil, recallibrate the carb, top up the coolant and put tweed and oak in the tank! gah! anyway, if you're interested, dave, there's a fiesta i know of for sale which has recently (today) had a new alterator fitted and recently (two weeks ago) had a new battery fitted and is the proud wearer of 3 (yes three) hub caps. <_< <_<
cisono Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 boring boring porsche Would you turn down a free Porsche then? Of course, I prefer Made in Italy myself

Finnegan Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 Disappointed. I expected a thread cram packed full of pictures of fast cars, faster women and hedonistic joy. What did I get? Dave having a midlife crisis. I want my money back.

The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 i'd have the porsche, sell it and buy a TVR TVR are about on a par with your old classic British sports cars in terms of reliability.
cisono Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 TVR are about on a par with your old classic British sports cars in terms of reliability. That might explain the 14K then...
stez Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 TVR are about on a par with your old classic British sports cars in terms of reliability. that's why i love them so! built in a shed out of twigs and old ford anglia parts.
cisono Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 that's why i love them so! built in a shed out of twigs and old ford anglia parts. and developing mechanical faults rather than sensor problems?
stez Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 and developing mechanical faults rather than sensor problems? yep, so you can get stuck in wiltshire while you're in a rush to get somewhere it's perfect moaning fodder, and the british love a good moan and whine
The People's Hero Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 that's why i love them so! built in a shed out of twigs and old ford anglia parts. Fair point. To be fair, I was next to one a few days ago at some lights and it sounded gorgeous. It was a Griffith.... Just seen this TVR on the internet.. never seen one around... might go have a mooch round the TVR showroom just down the road this afternoon!

Daggers Posted 21 January 2007 Author Posted 21 January 2007 Midlife crisis? Pah! Here's the baby for me...
Janx Posted 21 January 2007 Posted 21 January 2007 Think Stez and I have a lot in common, a yearning for simpler times of British motoring... I too love all that old leyland crap and TVRs are my all time wanq tanq along with Astons, but they spend more time on the ramp than the drive and cost more a year to run than buy, my business partner had a Cerbera for 6 months and had it on the road for about 2 months of that time.... sad really. Dave Im in for the midlife crisis.... we could do a male version of Thelma and Lousie, any chance of that "pig" having a tinted window strip...Bobblet and Janx.... we could be the next "magnet and steel"
Daggers Posted 21 January 2007 Author Posted 21 January 2007 ...we could do a male version of Thelma and Lousie I'd prefer not to drive off a cliff though ~ could we just pop to Halfords instead?
