The People's Hero Posted 19 January 2007 Posted 19 January 2007 I have no teaching qualifications. No CRB check. Yet having advertised for just over one week, I now have a number of clients and am tutoring 7 hours a week at £15 p/h. Can't complain. If the taxman is reading, this is all made up.

You make a good point. When all of my students find out in August that I in fact haven't help them one jot, I shall be sunning myself somewhere exotic. Of course, by exotic, I probably mean back in the Stone, or Newport. Since we've got naff all money to go anywhere else.

Might be different economics down there, but I know Jess used to do some tutoring, and she only charged £10, and found it hard to get people to sign up. But it might just be she was crap at advertising it. Since she couldn't be bothered to do much beyond stick a card in the window of the newsagents.

The way to do it is join loads of agencies, then as soon as you get a decent lead, ring them directly and cut out the agency. Word of mouth is good too. As well as the obvious free newspaper advertising/internet/etc. Bit concerned I'm over-committing myself though as I have a shedload of coursework in by mid february.

BEWARE!! You are still liable to a fee, and if they find out that their little darlings are being taught by you, they CAN and will take you to court for the brass.... trust me Zoltar knows all!

To be fair, they shouldn't really have that much to do between now and then. There's only 3 weeks until half term, and they should have done/be doing mocks/actual exam by now.
Rincewind Posted 19 January 2007 Posted 19 January 2007 As an assignment you could give them your coursework to do.

I'm living on the edge. My clients will keep their mouths closed as its saving them bucks and is a lot more convenient for them... I hope. We'll see.

I wouldn't worry too much. Lots of teachers cannot put a decent sentence together, games masters cannot play or properly demonstrate the sports they teach and religious education teachers would be more appropriately engaged attending confession.
The People's Hero Posted 19 January 2007 Author Posted 19 January 2007 I've just had a BIG order for some tutoring Not sure it's genuine though...
Lord Nibblington Posted 19 January 2007 Posted 19 January 2007 I've just had a BIG order for some tutoring Not sure it's genuine though... As long as you can take their money first... who cares?
The People's Hero Posted 19 January 2007 Author Posted 19 January 2007 As long as you can take their money first... who cares? Well they reckon they are sending me a cheque for £lots. Edited.

Obviously I'm not that way inclined, but some of these people don't even know me from Adam.
Monk Posted 19 January 2007 Posted 19 January 2007 Did Milan contact you asking you to give Rab some goalie training? I reckon thats worth about £16 ph.
