The Problem with my dongle

Recommended Posts

Posted

just received this email from BlueSoleil about my bluetooth device.

Hello:

First I would thank you for your time and effort spent on Bluesoleil.

I’m writing to respond your issue.

We are sorry to tell you that your Bluetooth device's address such as '11:11:11:11:11:11' is illegal.

Every Bluetooth device should have its own BD address, and this address must be bought from Bluetooth SIG and cannot be changed manually.

Some chipset maker always set the default address as '11:11:11:11:11:11' when they make the chipset, then they sell the chipset to dongle manufacturers. These dongle maker need to buy BD address from Bluetooth SIG and ‘embed’ these address in the dongle. But some wicked manufacturers don’t do this for the purpose of saving cost, so the BD is still '11:11:11:11:11:11'.

You can obtain some information of BD address for your devices directly from the IEEE Registration Authority web site at

http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/, and please contact your Bluetooth adapter vendor to solve this problem, you have the right asking for refund.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

With best regards

I used their CD disc to install the program and device and I bought it in good faith. Why send it out to the shops? I'm confused. Anyone else had their dongle lisenced? Also the English usage of the email is poor.

MIght print the reply off and take the thing back. It lookis like an older version and I've just looked at a messageboard. From what I've seen a lot of the problems have been stopped. Also a couple of people have emailed them asking if they can get the lisence direct and its been sent to them.

I was also wondering if my firewall may be preventing it from working properly. I can send ringtones to my PC so I dont know why I cant the other way.

I stand to be corrected but I thought Firewalls were only for Internet traffic.:dunno:

I see where they are coming from, The dongle will have a 'Hard Coded' address, such as the 11:11:11:11:11:11 but should look more like 12:1a:4c:33:aa:45 (a hexadecimal value) the first half usually points th the manufacturer and the second half is unique to each dongle, rather like a house address each one must be unique. It sounds like your dongle has not been properly configured by manufacturer, take it back. If this is the case you will not be able to do anything to fix it with CD's etc. PS has it ever worked?

It has worked the other way. I shall have to sort the packaging out/ Got no receipt though. If mines faulty there may be others if they came from a batch. I have bought accesseries of the place before like phone chargers and covers and they've been OK. Its the little booth near the arcade in the market.

Funny thing it does connect with my phone b ut not all the time. I thought it was me. My phone has an address but I suppose thats because theres nothing wrong with my phone. I could connect to other phones though I;ve not tried it yet.

It has

£Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ HOME 8348F971E5

lollol 1111111111

the smileys are Icons for the pc

under BT info I have sevice name 000d411c53d3

device address the same

BT FW

RI 4.0 2.7

PL

34.4

Maybe the bloke will know more when I take it back. I'll try reinstalling just in case he'll tell me to do that.
