A central midfielder in 2007 should either be a ball winner like Essien, Hargreaves, Makelele, Sissoko (to win the ball and give it to the ball-players and also to protect the front 4) or an all-round player who can pass, tackle and score goals (Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes although his tackling isnt the best ) Why Man Utd bought him and why he is held in such high regard with England baffles me. Then again maybe its just me!

Even though the 20m price tag is only mostly due to the German tax regulations regarding player sales. Why Man U panicked and splashed the cash on Carrick when they could have bungled a bit more cash to the krauts and come away with the better player... Still, Carrick may look hopeless but he's not been totally ineffectual... just not worth anything like 18m.

Its crazy money but if you put it into perspective Hargreaves is a ball winner who can also play on the flanks or at full back so paying big money for him is a better option as you are getting someone who can cover in about 5 positions.

If he could help Man U progress a stage or two further than usual in the Champions League, 20m would be a bargain (pay for itself after a season or two).

Maybe but I think Sir Al panicked a bit and maybe wouldnt have been in a hurry had he known that Scholes would return in such great form. Despite the little ginger being 32 years old, Id have him in my team ahead of Carrick.

Also, say what you like about Michael Carrick but look at Manchester United this season and he plays in the most important position in the whole team. He's been impressive IMO. Keep it simple and play accurate passes to the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo who will make the difference. Fair play to him.

He and scholes this season have been superb, he had one bad game for england the other night and now everyone seems to be slating him. IMO hes been brilliant at united this season.
