Most over-rated top class player

Yip what has he ever done on the international stage?

Singlehandedly guided Liverpool to Champions League glory. None of Englands top players exactly perform do they?

He is possibly the best player in the premiership.

Reading the board index, I see the thread called '' Most over-rated top class player ''

And the last reply was from Tevez

..

That's what made me think of him :P

But I really do think he is overated. Never performed when he had the chance maybe he's not settling but he's a top class player isn't he. :dunno::rolleyes:

Michael Carrick

£20m player and cant tackle, head the ball or score many goals although does have a decent shot. A central midfielder in 2007 should either be a ball winner like Essien, Hargreaves, Makelele, Sissoko (to win the ball and give it to the ball-players and also to protect the front 4) or an all-round player who can pass, tackle and score goals (Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes although his tackling isnt the best lol)

Why Man Utd bought him and why he is held in such high regard with England baffles me. Then again maybe its just me!

I would agree with you on that.

Over-rated badly just because he plays in a team that is top of the table. Scholes carries him through in the big fixtures.

Carrick and Lampard the most over-rated top class players? Do any of you want to be taken seriously or are you saying it for a joke? With Peter Crouch on the scene as England's centre-forward .........

WHY???

Lampard has proved time and time again that he is not International level yet is still classed by some to be one of the best midfielders in the world yet this is so not true!!! a certain John Barnes was great for club but was terrible for England and Lampard isn't much different!! I don't think anyone can argue that if it was Hargreaves and Gerrard in the England midfield we would be a far better team

if Wayne Rooney played for Watford he would still be a top class player if Lampard played for Watford I think the game would just pass by him..

That is obviously why he always gets in the final selections as player of the season, europe, world etc. and chosen by journalists, players, managers etc. Am I missing something here Jay?

Agreed with that.

Any talk of him been mentioned in the England set up is a joke.

Bit harsh on Robben, he seems to play pretty well nearly all of the time.

As for Butt I totally agree, why commentators continually praise him is beyond me. Feckin' rubbish.

I get what you mean, he is over-rated by many people on here and whichever premier club *cough Villa cough* was thinking of bidding for him.

I bet you all wouldn't have been saying that at this time last season though.

Possibly not, although he wasn't exactly brilliant in the first half of that season. IMO, he has only really performed consistly well for a patch of 5 games at the sharp end of last season. This doesn't mean Maybury's any better although I would put him in the side because of his experience.

Okay, the Champions League is still club football and doesn't qualify as international stage, but to blow another myth wide open it was Jamie Carragher who pulled Liverpool to that victory he was sensational. However seeing as he isn't championed by the marketeers of the world it isn't cool to say he did more than the badge kissing Gerrard.

As for the best player in the Premiership

Henry, Fabregas, Scholes, Essien, Terry, Neville (G), Rooney, Carragher all better than him and more consistent as well.

All IMHO of course.
