MADLEVEIN Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 .....YORK fans fear their side will become a laughing stock after the club’s stadium was renamed KitKat Crescent. Many thought it was a practical joke after learning the old title of their ground  Bootham Crescent  was to be consigned to the history books after 73 years. But a two-year sponsorship deal with confectionery giants Nestle Rowntree means City’s 9,000-capacity ground will bear the name of one of the company’s best-known chocolate bars.
Nationwider Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 As an ex-York inhabitant and a general hater of all things corporate in football, I think it sucks. But then they need the cash.
davieG Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 That's shocking. 56589[/snapback] It's a tough break but you can't blame the club they are hanging, on by their finger nails to the cliff of oblivion. At least it's only for 2 years not like our 10. Once again the fans suffer because of the selfishness, greed and short-sighted ineptitude of FIFA, the FA, the Premier League, the Football League and the PFA. Yet another rant
Who ate all the pies? Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 I mentioned this on another thread still it definately makes you think..it could have been worse!

Horrible commercial sellout, for peanuts as well.
Teeno Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 If they're anything like our club they'll be bringing out chocolate flavoured reversable 3rd kits to mark the historic occasion.
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 the evidence of any truth to this story is wafer thin. taxi!! maybe i should take a break i'm here all night.

Jonbluefox9 Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 My Grandma was born in York and I mean the city of York not just Yorkshire so I have a lot of family there and know a few York City fans. My Grandma also worked at Rowntrees which is now Nestles after the war as did most of her mates so I Know how big the company is in the area (not so much since the name was changed to Nestles). The club can't really refuse any kind of money that comes in but at least it's a local company and not just some meaningless brand.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 its no different to the reebok stadium, walkers stadium, jjb stadium, its just part of football, everything is to do with money now.
Guest Daniel Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 Brilliant name. Well done Wellington_Twat using the same old jokes that people have already cracked. Boring.
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 murf, our chairman owns jjb... ''daniel'', i used 1 joke that i missed, why cant you come up with any. stop getting your snickers in a twist. here, watch me, even though i think this 'topic' should come to an end as i said, rumours to this story are 'wafer thin', and so there will be a 'marathon' of meetings if this will be decided if it does happen, it'll hopefully give the club a financial 'boost' and fans are 'kinder suprised' by the new name
