Brainy Posted 21 February 2007 Posted 21 February 2007 I guess that most would have heard about last night's controversial game in Lens. As far as im concerned, Lille are a disgrace. The way French police treated the travelling fans was appauling. "I was appalled by our treatment by the French police from the moment that we arrived. ''I couldn't believe the state of a ground - it was like returning to the era before all-seater stadiums. We were fenced in like cattle only treated worse. ''In addition to being treated barbarically by the police, we were constantly targeted by the Lille fans directly above us in an upper tier. "Throughout the match, coins and other missiles rained down and yet the police did nothing. The worst has to be the was the management acted after the Ryan Giggs goal. We have seen quick free-kick's being taken all the time, and it usually leads to a goal. I heard this morning that a Lille spokesman stated that if Lille had taken a quick free-kick and scored, it would have been disallowed. That's a complete joke. However, the actions from the management of Lille were ludicrous. Sore losers. To concede a perfect goal and to walk off the field after should have happened. I wish I could go into more detail but im stuck for ideas on what to write. Lille are a disgrace, and in my opinion, should be chucked out of the competition.

escape2victory Posted 21 February 2007 Posted 21 February 2007 It was wrong what they did but they did have a good goal disallowed and then conceided a controversial goal. If that happened to Leicester I bet you would also be furious and would probably commend their actions if Leicester threatened to walk off !!
Brainy Posted 21 February 2007 Author Posted 21 February 2007 i thought it was a member of the coaching staff that stole the ball not the manager i could be wrong tho To be fair it wouldn't make a difference. Anyone who orders THEY'RE players off should be ashamed, even if it was the tea lady.

So you're allowed to push the opposing defender off the ball now then are you? When did they change the rule's to allow pushing/fouling in the box

lildave3 Posted 21 February 2007 Posted 21 February 2007 You only posted that so the last topic/poster thing would say Lily Allen didn't you
Simi Posted 21 February 2007 Posted 21 February 2007 You only posted that so the last topic/poster thing would say Lily Allen didn't you . I saw the same thing . Not seen this incident yet but everyone was talking about it today. Sounds very immature to me. Just get on with it.
Brainy Posted 21 February 2007 Author Posted 21 February 2007 So you're allowed to push the opposing defender off the ball now then are you? When did they change the rule's to allow pushing/fouling in the box Agreed. Anyone who couldn't see a push needs to go somewhere..
potter3 Posted 21 February 2007 Posted 21 February 2007 Agreed. Anyone who couldn't see a push needs to go somewhere.. Hey I already go there
escape2victory Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 So you're allowed to push the opposing defender off the ball now then are you? When did they change the rule's to allow pushing/fouling in the box So your telling me that little push in the back made a strong CB like Vidic fly several feet ?! your dreaming arnt u ! Vidic knew he was beaten in the air because the striker had a run on him so as soon as slight contact was made he went down and the ref fell for it. If you give free kicks for that, then there is potentially going to be a foul everytime a cross comes into the box. That incident wouldnt be a foul in the Championship. Its a mans game !!
hairy Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 The way French police treated the travelling fans was appauling. Similar to the Spanish police when you play Athletico Madrid then. However, the actions from the management of Lille were ludicrous. Sore losers. They are French so why are you so surprised
Suffolk_fox Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 I think that the crushing incident, the players being encouraged to leave the pitch and the coins being thrown can only culminate in one thing. Lille being kicked out/banned. Quite rightly too. Shocking!
Leonisco Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Agree with everyone, Lille are a disgrace. So fooking what if he took the free-kick quickly - that is why it's called a "FREE KICK". Why should the team who have just committed a foul gain an advantage by setting up a wall and organising their defence or whatever. If they've committed a foul they should be punished for it. Kick 'em out.
Milky Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 They reckon it was due to forged tickets and that were 1,500 more people that there should be. That's a lucky escape.

How was it controversial? it was a by-the-book quick free kick??
escape2victory Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 How was it controversial? it was a by-the-book quick free kick?? year ok i have to agree it was a good goal and is allowed under the laws of the game. I still think Lille's goal should have stood though !!
Suffolk_fox Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 year ok i have to agree it was a good goal and is allowed under the laws of the game. I still think Lille's goal should have stood though !! No way. The defender was definitely shoved, and seeing as he was heading in that direction, it wouldn't take a lot to throw him off balance. If the roles were reversed it would have been a penalty. If a goalie were to receive a shove like that, the offending player would no doubt have been shot immediately and his next of kin billed for the bullets.

If that was Leicester getting a goal disallowed, I would be outraged. Doesn't matter how many times I see it, it was a perfectly good goal, with a perfect cross and the striker having the beating of Vidic. It was barely a push and Man Utd got out of jail. Even Man Utd fans will admit that. Regarding the free kick, it was a good free kick by Giggs and the goal deserves to stand. The fact that UEFA are debating the need for a potential reply is in itself an absolute disgrace, regardless of whether they ask for one or not.
act smiley Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Surely as the stadium wasn't Lille's its a bit harsh to blame them for the incident, as it could easily be the fault of Lens - its one of those things that needs a full investigation I'd have thought. Of course, the police hardly helped matters. The disallowed goal was a bit harsh. You could possibly justify it as there was contact, but it was minimal and Vidic was trying to get an arm around the striker anyway. The free kick was just bad sportsmanship from both sides really. Theres nothing in the rulebook about having to wait for a whistle or anything.
breadandcheese Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 They reckon it was due to forged tickets and that were 1,500 more people that there should be. That's a lucky escape. I read that on teamtalk. Lille's behaviour, top to bottom is appalling. Yesterday they blame English hooligans, pointing at the evidence of a damaged fence (yes the fence was damaged as the pen was dangerously overcrowded). Today they blame Man Utd for releasing tickets early (i.e. distributing them to fans before they get to the stadium, which supposedly allowed forgeries to be made. So why has this problem never cropped up before in a European or domestic game? It seems to me like cr*p stewarding and policing.

Theres nothing in the rulebook about having to wait for a whistle or anything. Once upon a time, an entire nation was banned from Europe because of crowd problems, despite another country's team having a guns, fireworks and very big sticks at the same match.....
Brainy Posted 22 February 2007 Author Posted 22 February 2007 The crushing incident isn't Lille's problem, as it wasn't their stadium.
Simi Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Lille's appeal against the goal has been rejetced.
