I listened to Neon Bible tonight and I don't think it's that bad at all.

Sure, none of the songs are as good as the best songs on "Funeral," but all in all, I did enjoy most of the songs on their new album on my first listen--I'd say I liked eight out the 11. With so many bands falling into sophomore slumps lately, it's nice to hear a follow-up album that's enjoyable.

I found the vocal melodies on "Neon Bible" to not be as U2-ish as they were on "Funeral" and slightly more Springsteenish.

It's good in a different way.

There was no way they could carry on that meandering, symphonic sound forever and ever. The songs are more focused and have new stuff (Pipe organ is great whenever its used)

There's not the same pounding highs like on 'Rebellion (Lies)', or the same lows like on 'The Backseat', but it's generally much more consistant.

I like it about the same. I must have listened to it about 20 times now.

Exactly my opinion. It's a lot less guitar based but just as good IMO.

Concisely accurate. I waffle too much. :(

There's something really good about Antichrist Televsion Blues that I can't put my finger on. It moves at the same pace all the way through which I'd usually find dead boring, but I don't, I like it tons.

Just listened to this for the 1st time, and got to say i was a fan of the 1st album but this second attempt is mediocre at best. although it might be a grower.

People always have a hard time when bands supposedly can't live up to the hype their first album has created.

I bought the CD yesterday and I'm impressed. Not all tracks are that good, but the sound keeps growing on me. There's some amazing arrangements in there, too. "My Body Is A Cage" comes to mind. "Antichrist Television Blues" reminded me of Bruce Springsteen. "Windowsill" is dark and creepy. My personal favourite is "No Cars Go".

And they're Canadian. That counts as a bonus.

No Cars Go is on their EP recorded before Funeral.

With this the only real high point of the album I'm not that impressed.

I'm gonna give it some more listens though.
