Flexx Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Link Luton set to unveil new manager Luton Town are set to name their new manager at 1600 BST on Tuesday. Coach Brian Stein has been in temporary charge of the struggling Hatters since they sacked previous boss Mike Newelll on 15 March. With seven games of the season left, Luton are 23rd in the Championship after a run of six straight defeats. Former Leeds United manager Kevin Blackwell is one of the favourites for the job and he confirmed to BBC Sport that he has been interviewed. Ex-Luton striker Mick Harford, assistant manager at Colchester United, is another name in the frame.
Milky Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 I'm sure i read somewhere that Mike Stowell had applied for the job.
Master Fox Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 I'm sure i read somewhere that Mike Stowell had applied for the job. Really?
Flexx Posted 27 March 2007 Author Posted 27 March 2007 I read that aswell, I think it was in the gossip column on the BBC though
Daggers Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 5live announced that it is going to be Kevin Blackwell in the 3 o'clock news.
Daggers Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Hands up who'd have taken Blackwell here? I'd take a fricken boil-ridden mangy three legged dog with fleas in place of Kelly
Leicester Lass Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Any money says Blackwell gets the Luton job.
Guest Gist Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Blackwell confirmed as Luton boss I'm out of the new manager sweepstake then .... <_<
lookwhaticando Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Four year contract!! What the hell's that all about? Blackwell got sacked earlier this season for causing Leeds to slide down the table faster than a greasy pig down a steep hill! They must have been really desperate for him to dangle four years in front of him like that.

Contracts mean nothing now almost.
lookwhaticando Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Contracts mean nothing now almost. Oh but they do. It ensures the manager enjoys plenty of paid holiday in the event that he's sacked. Four year contracts are a bad omen... Sturrock got four years... a month later he got sacked. Newell (at Luton, no less) got four years... then got sacked about 9 months later. Blackwell already got sacked before, and he had a newish contract on the go, too. Watch out, Blackwell. I'd have thought a bunch of alleged tight-arses such as the Luton board would be a bit careful about offering long contracts to people. Especially to a manager who was sacked from his previous job but six months ago for sending his team into the position Luton themselves now find themselves in. Oh well... good luck to them both. With any luck, Blackwell will relegate two teams in one season.
Nationwider Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 A four year contract does seem a bit generous. My guess is it's a very modest salary with bonuses for play-offs, promotion etc.

Luton dont like buying players and are a selling club so the board are giving him enough time to nurture some of the young talent before they get punted out! 4 years should do it.
