Scow Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 My view exactly on Robson. Can't see any reason/evidence why that view should apply to Ince. He could be another Dennis Wise. Look at the great start he had at Swindon - then the job he's done at Leeds. Of course they're different situations, but I just don't think Ince is the answer.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 No matter what is said about Worthington, the fact remains that he managed a side that won the Championship not so long ago - without spending huge amounts of money. We could do much worse. Someone else has noticed!
potter3 Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Sorry to harp on about our ex-boss but Rob Kelly had a decent run for a few months at Championship level whereas Ince has, albeit maintained similarly early good results over a slightly longer period, had a decent run at League 2 level. I would like to see him continue getting results for another season before he is considered as a long term candidate. I'm not saying this to you, but it jut reminded me. :!: Just because a manager has a good record at a lower level and hasn't managed at a higher level, it doesn't mean they are a poor manager. They can only manage at the level where their club is. They can only manage the player that would be attracted to that level. Macclesfield's squad is proabaly a slightly below average one for a League Two, which is why they were rock bottom, hes managed to lift them up, and sign new players. Why can't he do that at Championship level, it's not like because he manages a League Two club all the players will play like League 2 players (excpt for the ones that do anyweay ) Grrrr
BartonFox Posted 11 April 2007 Author Posted 11 April 2007 I'd like to see Ince hired purely because it'd be a twitch of blood in the flaccid penis that is LCFC. But I'm awaiting an answer from Mr Barton. Two bookies have suspended betting already
fox123 Posted 12 April 2007 Posted 12 April 2007 Two bookies have suspended betting already Thats utter b*ll*x, they wouldn't have seen any money to suspend the betting I know we haven't (had a few enquiries) there isn't a market on betting exchanges which means there isnt a call for a market, unlike there was before roy keane got the sunderland job!
lildave3 Posted 12 April 2007 Posted 12 April 2007 I wouldn't mind him coming, although i did hear he wasn't good with young players.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 12 April 2007 Posted 12 April 2007 Why is everyone suddenly content to settle for Paul Ince? If we are serious to become a prem club, then we need prem players and a prem manager (we've already got the facilities). Where is Macclesfield atm? Last I checked they were set for relegation to the Conference.

When Ince took over at Macclesfield they had played 20 matches, drawing 6 games and losing the other 14. Consequently, they were well and truly stranded at the foot of the table. Their recovery has been remarkable. To selectively make a snapshot judgement now, because Macclesfield are still in the bottom four, is spin worthy of New Labour, Cameron and Max Clifford all rolled into one.

But as people on here are so fond of pointing out, achievement at lower league levels does not necessarily equal achievement in this one. And hasn't Ince only averaged draws since he took over anyway? They are still near the foot of the table. Coleman is a tried and tested manager with premiership experience, and if we want to see ourselves up there, we should be looking up and not down.

I think you'll find it's abour 40 odd points from 26 games. Despite this, like you, I'd prefer Coleman to Ince any day of the week as well.
Leicfox Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Well Milan has said its just rumour and apparently Bet365 have reopened their book on Ince becoming the new boss, making him the 15/8 favourite. Worthington is 11/4 second favourite. Ex-City forward and former Luton boss Mike Newell is 13/2, Chris Coleman, who was sacked by Fulham is 8/1, while Glenn Hoddle, who has also been linked with the job, is 10/1. Although ive just had a live chat on Bet365 and they're not even running a market.... Chat InformationThank you for contacting bet365 Live Chat. An advisor will be with you shortly. Stevosevic Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 I have read in a thread somewhere that RL said Ince is a done deal, does anyone have a link or can confirm what their exact words were? Also bookies are now refusing take bets on Ince being manager? all seems pretty certain to me. PS - just seen on SSN that it is in the Daily Star today.

Leicfox Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Its pure rumour according to Milan. "I think with Paul Ince it is a rumour," said Mandaric. "There is nothing in it. As I have said, nobody is in and nobody is out. I am keeping an open mind."As far as everything else goes, I am desperate to secure our safety and then start to look. There are a lot of great people out there and I think we have to find a person who has a personality. "Nigel Worthington will have a fair chance for that. He is willing to demonstrate what he has and who he is.

Tried, tested... and failed!!??? WHY CAN'T PEOPLE SEE THIS!!!!!!
morris1234 Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 100% support from me if true. All the pedigree, an exciting appointment. . but apart from that he will be just like kelly, no experience except for league 2?!
l444ry Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Tried, tested... and failed!!???WHY CAN'T PEOPLE SEE THIS!!!!!! If Chris Coleman was a "failure" at Fulham then so is virtually every manager in the Premiership bar Mourinho and Ferguson. Al Fayed must be stark raving bonkers to remove his manager at the first sniff of relegation during his tenure.
FilboFox Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 To be honest I really don't think that we can just go bringing in people like Ince... OK, he has done a good job at Macc but I'm not sure that he would do a good job at this level just yet... I'm sticking with my initial wish for Coleman that I have been wanting for months now... BRING IN COLEMAN... FULHAM WILL REGRET LETTING HIM GO!!!
Leicfox Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Worthington eyes long Foxes stay http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/6556973.stm
Mort Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Worthington eyes long Foxes stayhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/6556973.stm He'll be in with a shout if we stay up IMHO... still think MM brought him in very much as a "caretaker" and dosnt intend to retain him for next season.
shrood Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 A lot of you lot are just mental. So hostile to the Worthington appointment, a man who's proven he can do brilliant things in this league. Then really positive about Ince, a geezer who has proven he can do pretty good things in a lesser league. Yes, the gamble paid off with Keane. No it didn't with countless other managers.
Geo V Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Massive money laid on Paul Ince and the book closed.Allegedly of course I love a bet and have accounts with about 10 companies and cant see that betting anywhere mate! If he does come in I`ll back him but Ive said many times I dont think he is what we need due to his lack of experience. I know people will always say "Look at what Keane has done at Sunderland" but the difference is they had some good players there already and have managed to sell a load for some cash and spend big which we wont be able to do. Also, Keane was always going to be a good manager as he is forthright and fancy free, unlike someone like Paul Ince who is into his gimmicks and talks al load of bollox. As a player he wanted "The Guvnor" on his boots and he didnt listen to Sir Alex who wanted him to remain a holding midfielder and Ince thought he should be scoring goals as an attacking midfielder. That ultimately led to his departure. He goes on about no black managers getting a chance within the game but there have been a few come to England and try like Gullit and Tigana and they didnt work. There are less black managers to choose from and thats why there isnt loads of black managers and not for racist reasons. Also he is a big headed fook who thinks that if he stayed at Inter he would now be there new manager. Where he gets thats from I dont know. Anyway, I dont like his personality but its not about liking someone, its about results. I hope if he does come in he does superbly but I have my doubts on his decision making and ability as a manager.
Leicfox Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Read my post on page 2 m8, Bet365 will offer odds if you give them a bell.

Then really positive about Ince, a geezer who has proven he can do pretty good things in a lesser league. Yes, the gamble paid off with Keane. No it didn't with countless other managers. But the big worry for City fans is: Will the gamble of putting Worthington in charge pay off? There was a strong argument for removing Kelly months ago. However, to do it with only 5 games remaining could prove to be a reckless decision. For better or worse, he knew his players strengths/weaknesses. Worthington is managing on a wing and a prayer.
