BartonFox Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Massive money laid on Paul Ince and the book closed. Allegedly of course
filbertway Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Ince eh, hopefully if he does come, he can do a similar job to Keane, he msut have picked a thing or two up from Fergie.
Thracian Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 100% support from me if true. All the pedigree, an exciting appointment. .
Ajax Treesdown Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Ince will do nicely. His attitude is perfect for what we need. Also people respect the bloke. Nuff said.
Head Honcho Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Ince will do nicely. His attitude is perfect for what we need. Also people respect the bloke. Nuff said. Total bollox Give me the names of the people who respect him? How many players have gone to Macclesfield because of his so called respect? ...............and don't get me started on his attitude. Can you actually remember when he wimped out playing for England?
Bryn Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 What makes you think this Barton Fox et al? That's a genuine question rather than an aggressive comment.
Scow Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 What makes you think this? That's a genuine question rather than an aggressive comment. Because The Sun says so.
dandannieldanok Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Sorry to harp on about our ex-boss but Rob Kelly had a decent run for a few months at Championship level whereas Ince has, albeit maintained similarly early good results over a slightly longer period, had a decent run at League 2 level. I would like to see him continue getting results for another season before he is considered as a long term candidate.
The Stig Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Ince would be my second choice behind Coleman, if he had gone to a League 1 or 2 club and done a good job as well i would be routing for him but I still think he would be a bit of a risk emplying him, he would do one of two things 1) Do a great job and be really good 2) Cock it up big-time But who ever does get the job will get my 100% support even if I don't agree with the appointment, I will only start to critisise when if > when things start to go very badly wrong.

Macclesfield have averaged around a point and a half a game since he arrived. Not good enough for me I'm afraid.
filbertway Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Absolutely.Macclesfield have averaged around a point and a half a game since he arrived. Not good enough for me I'm afraid. 2 Points is promotion form though? And it is macclesfield.
dandannieldanok Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 2 Points is promotion form though? And it is macclesfield. 1.5 is not 2. Macclesfield were, correct me if I am wrong, play-off contenders last season weren't they?
Scow Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Ince has done a fantastic job to get them where they are - but as I've mentioned before, that doesn't justify why he should be appointed. He needs to sustain what he's done at Macclesfield over a longer period of time. If we're talking of League 2 managers, then we may as well mention Dave Penney (again). Two successive promotions with Doncaster and is now doing a decent job at Darlington. Not managing above League 1 level is a concern, but the same applies to Ince. At least Penney has a track record longer than a season. No matter what is said about Worthington, the fact remains that he managed a side that won the Championship not so long ago - without spending huge amounts of money. We could do much worse.

Can't disagree with any of that, I would take Penney over Ince every time. Worthington is a decent manager, nothing more, nothing less.
Flynny Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Absolutely.Macclesfield have averaged around a point and a half a game since he arrived. Not good enough for me I'm afraid. 1.5 points a game = 69 points, over a championship season, which depending on the season mean's you'll finish between 6th and 9th. He's done that with a team that already looked relegated when he took over. That's great.
filbertway Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 1.5 is not 2. Macclesfield were, correct me if I am wrong, play-off contenders last season weren't they? 17th last season? Season before that they were 5th.
Bryn Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I'd like to see Ince hired purely because it'd be a twitch of blood in the flaccid penis that is LCFC. But I'm awaiting an answer from Mr Barton.
filbertway Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Where Gary Johnson these days, he always seemed like a decent manager to me.
Thracian Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Can't disagree with any of that, I would take Penney over Ince every time. Worthington is a decent manager, nothing more, nothing less. Penney doesn't have the contacts and credibility at Premiership and Championship level that Ince will have.
Scow Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Penney doesn't have the contacts and credibility at Premiership and Championship level that Ince will have. You can have all the contacts in the world and still be crap. Bryan Robson springs to mind.
Thracian Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 You can have all the contacts in the world and still be crap. Bryan Robson springs to mind. My view exactly on Robson. Can't see any reason/evidence why that view should apply to Ince.
filbertboy Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 You can have all the contacts in the world and still be crap. Bryan Robson springs to mind. too right just the same with Hoddle...oodles of contacts and utter crap
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 You can have all the contacts in the world and still be crap. Bryan Robson springs to mind. Tony Adams Carlton Parmer Paul Merson Steve Clardige John Barnes Glen Hoddle (just off the top of my head )
Thracian Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 too right just the same with Hoddle...oodles of contacts and utter crap I'm with you too on Hoddle. Still can't see the connection with Ince.
