AoWW Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 Bugg*r... got done for speeding on the way back tonight. Clearly all the excitement caused my right foot to be much heavier than usual... Fecking unmarked police cars. Tried every trick in the book to get off as well - he was having none of it. I'm sure, judging from his accent, he came from Leeds... just my luck! Moral: never borrow a flash motor (far too noticeable) - get a bus.
lookwhaticando Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 Whose motor? How flash? How lead-footed? Just trying to form a proper mental picture.
AoWW Posted 22 April 2007 Author Posted 22 April 2007 Whose motor? How flash? How lead-footed? Just trying to form a proper mental picture. Glad you found it so amusing. A friends... Mercedes SL... clocked at 96mph. Hope that completes the picture!
lookwhaticando Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 Glad you found it so amusing. A friends... Mercedes SL... clocked at 96mph. Hope that completes the picture! It's not amusing per se... but it sounds like it was well worth it! At least you got clocked at a proper speed... getting done for 76 in a 70 would be so much worse. It's like in football - don't get sent off for fairy handbags... if you're going to get sent off for violent conduct, make sure you break the bastards face before you're carded. Same with breaking traffic laws... do it in style. Nice motor, well in excess of the limit. Sorted.
JadeFalcon Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 you could claim entrapment i would have thought, as speed traps have to be marked, E.g. speed camera's and also mobile speed camera's (they have to legally notify people either by local newspapers or have signs way before the hidden speed traps) suppose you could also play the ploy that you thought you were being chased as the car was unmarked --edit-- also check any tickets you were given for spelling errors, as this makes them invalid i think, works for council parking tickets anyways, also if you drive away before being given a parking ticket then it does'nt apply

Sorted. i think you are allowed to be within 10% of the limit - you get an option to go on a course or the points

Wils Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 Talking about speeding,i think i could have got flashed by a camera on the a14 today? I was coming back from Leicester, there was lots of Police vans at the side of the rd today, looked like quite a few people had been pulled over. I really hope i didnt get done.

Wils Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 You got any points at the moment. Nooo. It would be 3 points and a fine i should think,i wasnt going any faster than 90 i dont think but im pretty sure i managed to slow down before going through it. Lets hope so.

Must admit I'm inclined to agree... if I'm gonna get done I'd rather do it in style. Not that I'm glamorising or condoning my actions, of course, for all those impressionable young-things out there! Lemond (aka 'whoever') - a predictable response... I'm disappointed in you! Jade Falcon - thanks for the advice.

I know all those cameras pretty well. Lots aren't in action at the moment!
Bert Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 If you get flashed/pulled over for speeding, it serves you right.
Number 6 Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 can't say i feel sorry for you, i not saying speeding is necessarily bad driving, because some slow drivers are awful but if you had crashed you may have been in a lot more shit, as would the person you crashed into
Suffolk_fox Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 The new ones on the A14 (the average speed ones) are not yet operational. The ones that take a pic of the back of your car are prone to running out of camera film. The ones to really watch out for are the ones that take a pic of the front of the car, as they are linked to the Police HQ by ISDN, taking a digital photo ie no film to run out. Did you notice a flash? PS I got caught doing 106.4 on the A1 in N Ireland... If ya gonna do it, do it in style....
Rincewind Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 Cant say I have much sympathy for anyone done for speeding but well done for traveling up to Preston to show your support for City.

lookwhaticando Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 The way I see it, there's two types of speeding. There's idiotic speeding (60 in a 30) where the risks are high. This is the speeding I wouldn't tolerate and certainly wouldn't condone. There's calculated risk speeding - doing 100 on an open stretch of motorway at night in good conditions and no traffic. If the all the appropriate conditions are good - your condition, the car, the road, the traffic, and (Barber's favourite) the weather - there's little wrong in opening up a little bit. Suffice it to say, I've been in cars travelling over 120mph on a good few occasions - A38 into Derby, a motorway in France (several times) and a long stretch of nail-straight single-carriageway road out in the sticks. The driver wasn't an idiot - he only went at such speeds because the conditions permitted it. The very same driver obeyed the speed limits in built up areas (20s, 30s, 40s). The wankers that do 50 in the 60 and 50 still in the 40s... they're the real dangers on the road.
Maybes Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 If you get flashed/pulled over for speeding, it serves you right. I didnt deserve it berty on the way to southampton:nono:

I used to work for Mercedes and have spent lots of time driving delimited Mercs on German Autobahns. I generally felt much safer there than I do in the UK with the 'cloth-caps out for a drive in the country' and 'Mum's in 4x4s on the school run' brigades and certainly had fewer 'uncomfortable' moments. When I was stopped last night I was on the M6, fairly late at night, in excellent weather conditions, in a car that was more than capable of travelling safely at that speed, with not another vehicle in sight until the plod car joined the carriageway behind me. I've passed my Advanced Driving Test, am a member of the IAM, have been on a number of defensive driving courses and am very used to driving high performance cars. So ultimately, no, I don't feel I was being particularly irresponsible or unsafe last night. No doubt there are those who will beg to differ. (Hides head and waits for the flak!!!) :pinch:
Rincewind Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 You are one of the few. There has to be a guideline re speed to stop the idiots. The plod car would not know that you were an advanced driver. They would just clock your speed and having done that would have to act upon it. They may have radioed information to their HQ so some details would be known. Besides it may not be you that causes an accident but some fool who could not handle somebody appearing suddenly at their backsides at 100mph or oncoming traffic Their reaction may be slower because they are average drivers..

Fair point. Although I hope that on the M6 there would not be oncoming traffic (at least not on my carriageway) If I had seen headlights coming straight towards me (which I have experienced in the past on a dual carriageway) I would have slowed down damn fast!

Prepares for comments about trying to pick up foxestalk users and being sexist and bla bla bla If you just like to pretend you were one of walshie's women... then that's a bit weird But in either case... I completely agree with you. Respect. It's not as if you were taking unnecessary risks in those conditions, and with an ADT under your belt, you're more than likely to be in control of the situation. You're not exactly a nooby driver giving it some welly in a silly place - it's not a new experience for you, and it's not going to get the better of you. The safety of the car is another important factor... driving along in a 20 year old shit heap (Ford) is infinitely more dangerous than in a much newer vehicle - especially something as solid as a Merc. I hope you explained all this to the pig.

But you're right, the username would be a tad weird if not... though each to their own I guess. How am I supposed to know your gender though?... your username gives no clues (though I am curious as to what it is you can do!!)... for all I know you could be a bird trying to chat me up. Sadly, I've just checked out your profile and, by my reckoning, at 21 years younger than Walshie you're just too young!!! If you ever fancy coming for a drive though, just let me know!
