Mort Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007 Because of some of my views towards people and how they should be treated I could never vote Tory. But saying that I know someone who with his wife are Tory councellors in somewhere like Sileby. He is a decent bloke and he put up for election mainly because his wife has a disibility and he wanted to help people within the community. I doubt that in the area he represents he would get in as a Labour candidate so a Tory is the next best thing. I am not sure if he has the predjudices normally associated with represensitives but he doesn't seem the type who would. I apologise if this seems like stereotyping but I am at the age where I have grown up seeing different goverments and met people that claim to support one party or another. To me it seems in general that the Tory party care less about the less well off and have the attitude sod you I'm all right. Like the bloke I know people might go into politics at a local level to do good whichever party they support but at national level there are bigger issues and it becomes more to acheiving power than helping people. I respect your point even if i totally disagree with it, but if you honestly think the Tories "don't care" about the less well off you should have a look at the work of IDS's policy unit thats just reported back some really important and radical proposals for tackling poverty and social breakdown... you might disagree with it, but it shows the Tory Party is concerned about issues associated with poverty such as family breakdown and social exclusion, as i say dont need to agree but you can hardly claim the tory party "don't care" about the less well off.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007  I've only just read this, out of sheer boredom. Hilarious!
davieG Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007 I'm sure most politicians when starting out care for the many but the higher up the ladder they go the more they lose touch with the reality of life for the average man & woman from what ever persuasion they are. Ironically when they want to do something good for people they do not have the power and influence and when the do have the power and influence they've lost all interest and the only thing that matters to them is maintaining that influence, the monetary rewards that go with it at the time and in the future if they can only keep provided they keep the head below the parapet. As always there is the occasional exception.
Daphne du Maurier Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007 I've only just read this, out of sheer boredom. In "The Birds and Other Stories" I tell a scintillating tale of how a beautiful woman is on holiday with her two children and their governess. The woman is vacuous, vain and callous. To alleviate her boredom she embarks on an affair with an unfortunate young man who falls for her completely. Then she has to deal with the consequences of his infatuation. Maybe, perchance, you too could embark on a flight of emotional dalliance with a young man - but be warned, there will be consequences if he too becomes infatuated.

I hear you have an infatuation with the 'turbaned' kind, is this true?????
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Bah, the Tory party was founded on privelege. What puzzles me is when a Conservative starts telling my how much they liked V for Vendetta
The People's Hero Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 We've had 6 pages on this now. 6 pages of debate, discussion and bu llsh it. I've been especially amused by how many people think that by spouting a few political taglines, soundbites and that sort of thing, they can sound like they not what they're talking about. If you take away all the jargon, bullsh it, evasion and floweriness to what is in most posts, there is actually nothing there! No opinion. More a case of wanting to appear that you have an opinion! Back to the point in hand though - 6 pages of debate and discussion. That ought to be sufficient. So are we agreed that Fez looks like that chap in the avatar or not?
