Lord Nibblington Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa!Kokopops and I were steering this off topic with some applomb. I don't think the bananananana was an effective piece of fruit to do the steerage with. You might need a re think.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 Him joining Labour makes no real sense, he's a pro-European, Thatcherite, whose pretty liberal on civil liberties etc... Yeah... What's your point?
Webbo Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 Very true... one of the things that turned me off the Labour party was the dismissive, condescending, attitude of the "guardian reading set" to working class voters, in fact its something which really irks me if I'm honest. You've hit the nail on the head there.
Zingari Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 You've hit the nail on the head there. agreed its funny how that short sentence says so much about new socialism and the dismissive attitude towards the everyday concerns of the traditional labour voter; very laconic
Katy Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 Just because Nick Rhodes likes a bit of makeup, doesn't mean they're all poofters.I have it on very good authority that John Taylor is all man, and likes the ladies very much. Yes dear.
Head Honcho Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 You've hit the nail on the head there. ..............so one generalising statement about Guardian readers and he's hit the nail on the head
Zingari Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 ..............so one generalising statement about Guardian readers and he's hit the nail on the head i understand your frustration at this point but it is now fair to say i think that the phrase " guardian reader" can take its place alongside the more common derogatory terms such as "sun reader" or "mail reader" when describing an attitude of a group of people, and implies much more than the choice of newspaper that is not of course to say that all guardian readers fall into this category
Webbo Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 ..............so one generalising statement about Guardian readers and he's hit the nail on the head People are quite willing to dismiss me a Mail reader, as a reactionary bigot when in fact I'm more liberal than most labour voters I know. I think that gives me the right to sling a bit of sh1t back.

Webbo Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 It's like saying that everyone who reads the Morning Star is a Commie You surely don't read it for the share prices.
lookwhaticando Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 Hacker: "Don't tell me about the press, I know exactly who reads the papers: The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country. The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country. The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country. The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country. The Financial Times is read by the people who own the country. The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country, and The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is." Appleby: "Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun?" Woolley: "Sun readers don't care who runs the country so long as she's got big tits" Classic.
Finnegan Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 Bit outdated now really, but YPM is funny all the same.
The People's Hero Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 Bit outdated now really, but YPM is funny all the same. That guy in your avatar? It's Fez, isn't it?
Finnegan Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 That guy in your avatar? It's Fez, isn't it? If you squint, he's kind of got the Fez nose going on. But no, Fez wishes, I'm affraid. (Or, does David Silva wish?)
The People's Hero Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 If you squint, he's kind of got the Fez nose going on. But no, Fez wishes, I'm affraid. (Or, does David Silva wish?) It actually REALLY looks like Fez, apart from perhaps the hair. But Fez could sort his hair to look like that, if he wished.
Finnegan Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 Now you mention it, he does have Fez's eyes I think, too. This picture sort of ruins it though:
The People's Hero Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 He looks like Fez in your avatar. Need to keep this at the top until the man himself logs in and reads it. I don't look like Kavana (just to pre-dis-arm him of a potential comeback).

Guest Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 This isn't the "which famous celebrity do we look like" thread, y'know.
Rincewind Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Because of some of my views towards people and how they should be treated I could never vote Tory. But saying that I know someone who with his wife are Tory councellors in somewhere like Sileby. He is a decent bloke and he put up for election mainly because his wife has a disibility and he wanted to help people within the community. I doubt that in the area he represents he would get in as a Labour candidate so a Tory is the next best thing. I am not sure if he has the predjudices normally associated with represensitives but he doesn't seem the type who would. I apologise if this seems like stereotyping but I am at the age where I have grown up seeing different goverments and met people that claim to support one party or another. To me it seems in general that the Tory party care less about the less well off and have the attitude sod you I'm all right. Like the bloke I know people might go into politics at a local level to do good whichever party they support but at national level there are bigger issues and it becomes more to acheiving power than helping people.
Webbo Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Always a giggle when they conspire to rip themselves apart Source Ballot box The by-election follows the death of Ealing Southall's MP last month Five Labour councillors in Southall, west London, have defected to the Conservative Party. The switch by Manjit Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Maninder Kaur Keith, Jarnail Singh Jandu and Jagdish Gupta comes before the Ealing Southall by-election. 5-1 to the tory boys
