Connolly?

I know a lot of you rate him highly but he misses a lot of chances. He does work hard and is clever. I personally blame it on having two poor partners. Dublin and scowcroft have been poor. When he has scored goals he has had a good partner- Shipperly and Harewood.

I already think he is good. Although he has been unlucky this year and missed chances he has contributed a damn site more than most of our players.

Posted

He should have scored a couple yesterday, the header and the volley from 6 yards. He needs to improve on his finishing because he can't keep missing guilt-edged chances like he has been doing.

Posted

At other clubs his finishing was first class, I don't believe it's a case of improving his finishing. I just think he needs a bit of luck and more confidence.

But what do i know.....

I like Connolly, He has great commitment and ability ! But yes he does need to start scoring more goals , but i feel the lack of goals from Conners is our style of play ... We play a more direct style .where as he likes to build up a attack . Once he comes to terms with the style we play he will bang the goals in :)

Totally agree Ash and I hope your right. Hopefully Scowy will go in the summer and we'll get someone else in to compete with MDV. I think Connolly is our number 1 striker even if he isn't banging them in. What does everyone else think?

I have mixed feelings on Connolly, he has very good control of the ball and seems to know what he's doing but he just cant score.

The thing that really annoys me is that he trys to curl every chance he gets, why doesnt he leather some with his laces?

That's another thing about him yea. 1 chance yesterday which they didn't show on tele, he was about 20 yards out and tried to curl it into far corner when he was straight on goal. Didn't have an angle but still tried curling it. :S:ermm:

But that's his style of shooting hey, everybody's different :ermm:

Its awful, he does it all the time.

When they used to practice shooting before the game at the Walkers, Benjamin used to score more than Connolly, simply because he belted some and DC was trying to curl them.

Trev usually got them in the Kop rather than the goal :)

Was quite funny though

Yep Connolly never seems to drive his shots - maybe the coaching staff need to tell him to hit it low and hard rather than curling for the top corner every time.

Championship player that may or may not be good enough to get us promotion, but as a long term Premiership option he just isn't good enough.

Are we a premiership team? No

Are any of our players good enough for the premiership? No

Can we afford to buy premiership quality players? No

Are many players in this league good enough for the premier? No

Can many championship teams buy premier league players? No

Are we still struggling financially? Yes

Are we a very average championship team? Yes

Is that a bit of a silly point to make about him? Yes

How the feck can anyone talk about long term premiership players. What do you expect us to bloody do? We have a shitty bunch of players (out of whom he is probably the most skillful) should we go out and replace everyone of them? If so what do we replace them with, last time i looked you can't buy players with fans expectations... if you could we could buy wayne frigging rooney. Do you think any shitty free transfer is going to be a long term premiership answer?

The only chance we have is to go up, strengthen the team a bit and come back down. And do the same again the year after. Otherwise we will never have a chance of competeing in the premier.

IMO Connolly has been one of our best players this season, granted he hasnt scored anywhere near enough goals but his work rate, commitment and his ability to retain possession and pick out passes has been excellent, what we do have to look at is the fact that on most occasions this season he has played virtually as a lone striker, between Dublin, Scowcroft and Blake they havent made a decent stike partner put together let alone individually.

Judge Connolly once he is playing week in week out with a strike partner who is willing to match his work rate and commitment, then we may just see the real David Connolly.

It's clear to see that he is our best striker and 1 of the most intelligent footballer's we have at the club and possibly the best since muz, IMO it's the service thats lackin and when the service starts rolling in he'll come good for us

Did I say we should get rid of him, I think we should hang on for him and give him a chance to try and get us promotion next season.

We should be aiming to be a premiership club, in that sense in the long term we must be trying to get in players we feel are going to be able to hack it in the division. What is the point in giving long term contratcs to players not good enough for where you want to be? If we get promoted in the next couple of seasons there is no reason to believe we will go straight back down. Palace are just about managing it this season and Pompey did last season.

That post is far sillier than the one that went before it. Premiership does not equal Wayne Rooney- what on earth do you think Crystal Palace are doing right now?

I personally think Connolly is an excellent footballer. We haven't seen the best from him and I just hope that we do. I will bet all the money in the world that if Connolly was to leave Leicester he would start finding the net at another club. His record before he came here speaks for itself, nobody scores 45 goals in 63 games for a wank team like Wimbledon if your crap at finishing.

Never the less, Connolly has missed some gilt edged chances this season even if he has been starved of service at Leicester. Footballers can have spells like this, it's how they adapt their game when they go through spells like this though that matters. He'll come good, I can't see a reason why he wouldn't. He's 27/28 which is a good age, Levein is building a new squad and I am quietly confident Connolly will do the business.

I'm not making excuses up for him as he could easily of had 15 goals this season and that's playing alongside some real shocking players, but also there isn't any point slagging him off when there is evidence he's a quality player.

I still stand by the statement he's one of the best strikers in the league, he just needs confidence, luck and service. It seems alot of players have or are under-achieving at Leicester and it's only a matter of time before the quality shines through for the likes of Connolly and a few others.

Next season, fresh start, let's hope he gets off to a flyer and this thread will be laughed at.
