Kent Fox Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 From the little I saw of him last season, I don't think he has the commitment to fit into MA's plans this time around. MA is obviously going for hard tackling, committed-to-the-cause individuals rather than all "names". IMO this would be a transfer for transfer's sake, i.e making the squad bigger and more backed up, and not necessarily a good signing. We can do better and I would like to see MM/MA concentrate on not losing the likes of Hendrie, Clemence, Cohen et al.
Toby or not Toby Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 ive got a feeling that it will appear on the official site at 1 o clock
morris1234 Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/6277328.stm Leicester to sign winger Newton Leicester are set to sign former West Ham winger Shaun Newton on Thursday, reports BBC Radio Leicester. The 31 year-old spent two months on loan at the Walkers Stadium and has agreed a one year contract after being released at Upton Park. Newton started his career at Charlton before joining Wolves in 2001 for £850,000 and staying there until 2005 before signing for West Ham. He will become Martin Allen's 10th signing of the summer.
Dames Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Back up signing i think. We've always been light on the wings in recent seasons and i like the fact Allen has highlighted that and getting a few nippy wingers in aswell as some backup. I hope Ka'abi is first choice right mid, seeing as he is one of the fastest players in the world (According to Fifa) and he would probably destroy alot of left backs next season.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I think a few of you will be surprised and disappointed that Newton is not going to be just back-up, I believe Allen will see him as a key player.
ronnup Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 cost us nothing. decent player with some pace, plenty experience and some spark. No complaints

dandannieldanok Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 you think he will be our first choice right winger ahead of kaebi? I'm not sure but I can't see anyone playing 46 games in a squad this size so there is no doubt Newton will be playing at some point, I'm pretty sure he would have rejcted us if he was told "you are only back-up."
The Reverend Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I think Newtons a really good signing for this level to be honest. The squad was wafer thin last season, now its getting ever larger and that cant be a bad thing. Im happy, the right side looks strong and very well covered. Newtons a player with pace and a footballing brain. Good signing.

If that Kaebi is away on international duty a bit then he could well get a few games, thats what persuaded him to come?
lookwhaticando Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Stearman's days could be numbered!!! We're a bit short at left-back, especially if Sheehan goes out on loan... Stearman's certainly got himself a lot of competition at RB all of a sudden, but perhaps he could be deployed as a CB. How many CB's do we actually have? I count McAuley, Kisnorbo and N'Gotty. Perhaps Stearman would be considered for cover at CB as well as/instead of RB.

Ric Flair Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I'd count Kenton too for now. Some of these transfer-listed players show no signs of going anywhere. If Maybury and Kenton both stay, we have 6 right backs!!!
lookwhaticando Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I'd count Kenton too for now. Some of these transfer-listed players show no signs of going anywhere. Well yeah, I'm aware that Kenton hasn't really inched any closer to the exit, yet... but you really do wonder what part the tranny listed players will play. They've effectively been told they're not wanted and not part of the plans, so you'd assume (& hope) that the likes of Stearman is ahead of any of the transfer listed players in the pecking order. Same with all our other RB's - you'd hope they were ahead of Maybury and Kenton, too. Although football never is that simple, is it?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 If Maybury and Kenton both stay, we have 6 right backs!!! And if you're being stupid, which I am... 1. Stearman 2. Chambers 3. Kaebi 4. N'Gotty 5. McAuley 6. Kishishev 7. Kenton 8. Maybury 9. Magunda 10. Kisnorbo All players with professional contracts at LCFC who have played right-back at some point in their career. Quickly edited. :D Actually Kisnorbo must have played right-back either for us in his first season or for Hearts or Oz. I'm adding him to the list in a controversial yet ultimately meaningless manner. And I wanted double figures.
lookwhaticando Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Since the move is now official, discussions relating to the signing of Shaun Newton should move to this thread in the Leicester City forum.
