Fox in a Box Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Official http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Lates...1068912,00.html Newton Makes It Double Figures Posted on: Fri 06 Jul 2007 Leicester City have confirmed that they have made their 10th capture of a busy close season with the arrival of winger Shaun Newton on a one-year deal from West Ham United. The 31-year-old impressed during a nine-game loan period at the Walkers Stadium late last season with his energetic performances on the right flank. Newton, who was out of contract at Upton Park, also netted against Birmingham in April. City Boss Martin Allen said: "I think he will do a good job for us. Article continues Advertisement "I watched a video of his game against Birmingham here last season and I think, in no uncertain terms, that that is what I want on a regular basis." Newton started his career at Charlton Athletic, making his debut as a 17-year-old and also enjoyed a long stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he helped the Black County club gain promotion via the Play-Offs, along with Leicester, in 2003. The Camberwell-born winger moved from Wolves to West Ham in March 2005, with the fee eventually rising to £125,000 after the Hammers clinched promotion to the Premiership. Newton becomes Allen's 10th signing of the summer - following Bruno N'Gotty, Jimmy Nielson, Carl Cort, Radostin Kishishev, Ricky Sappleton, James Chambers, Sergio Hellings, Jonathan Hayes and Hossein Kaebi through the doors at the Walkers Stadium.
Blue Bob Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I think Newton will be a good signing for us. He showed some class touches last season but I guess he was frustrated at have to play with muppets like Hughes who would **** up his good work. I think in a decent midfield he will produce some good opening for the forwards. Certainly the best loan signing of last season, did emnough to earn a contract.
Bryn Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Wasn't expecting us to make the loan permanent but I'm not dissatisfied. Sound enough signing, experience of being promoted, looked decent in a poor side for us last season.
Sods Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 good news for me two quality players on the right now. I enjoyed newton last season the birmingham and barnsley games he played quality. A centre mid and a striker to get and i will be satisified another left sided midfielder would be great.

Mike the Metal Ed Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 At times brilliant, at others completely lethargic last April. I've been saying that if we can't find a better right winger, we may as well sign Newton. If he's cover for Ka'abi, it's a good signing, but I don't think we need him in the first eleven.
Gené and Tonic Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Now we need Cohen, Hendrie, McLeod and Morfaw Seeing as it looks unlikely we will get Cohen, another winger is still needed I feel. The right flank now seems ok with Newton and Ka'abi, but the left flank is weak with just Porter and Hayes who are young and inexperienced. I would love Chris Brunt but unfortunately we don't have about 3mil to spend

Milky Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 A guy who sounds racist to me that who he is by the sound of it. Not exactly It's a good enough signing, he does have some quality on the ball.
Dr The Singh Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I hope he is seen as a squad player, we never really saw the best of him last season, hence have my reservations!!!
maddog Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 i thought he was ok last season but nothing special really. Awesome in a couple of home games. Could be a good back up player and if the new signings fail to impress make the first team. An ok signing for Allen but im sort of 50-50 on this one.

Stearman, Chambers, N'Gotty, McAuley, Kisnorbo and Ka'abi can all play/have played at right back
maddog Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Newton was the sort of player putting the effort in, apart from Hume no one can put more effort in than him.
Blue Bob Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Considering we were linked with Trevor Sinclair so I think we have come out of this one quite well.
Leonisco Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I like MA's comment on the OS that he's only given him a one-year contract. Hopefully that'll motivate to perform like he id against Birmingham on a consistent basis.
Pete_foxes Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 hmmm.. I think Newton is average at best! Hopfully just a fringe player. Presuming kaebi will be playing Right midfield, I doubt & hope that Newtz won't get much of a chance.
Simon Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Definitely a better bet than Trevor Sinclair. Not an earth shattering signing, but definitely a decent squad player...
DB11 Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I'm very glad of this signing, he looked pretty decent when he played for us last season; in the games he played good anyway!
AyewJoking Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I think Newton is very lucky to be given a contract by us. Says something about the type of player we are willing to settle for.
a-fox Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 terrible signing did nothing for us and another player 30 or over and lacks pace ! i stand to be proven wrong at the end of the season
AyewJoking Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 Sounds like MA has signed Newton on the basis of one second half performance in a game which we still went on to lose. I just hope Newton isnt a starter because IMO we need much better players than him.
Mr Happy Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 I think Newtons a really good signing for this level to be honest. The squad was wafer thin last season, now its getting ever larger and that cant be a bad thing. Im happy, the right side looks strong and very well covered. Newtons a player with pace and a footballing brain. Good signing. Yeah I completely agree It really is a case of who to leave out the squad rather than who to put in it now!
Zingari Posted 6 July 2007 Posted 6 July 2007 none of the signings have really set pulses racing but hopefully the whole will be greater than sum of the parts
