dandannieldanok Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Anyone taking an interest or like myself have been to watch the prologue or first stage in England over the weekend? I watched the finish in Canterbury and it was amazing, it is a unique experience, amazing atmosphere. Anyway I thought I'd start this and it is looking reasonably promising so far for the Brits, well Wiggins and Millar at least. Todays crash was pretty spectacular too and Cavendish fell again, bad luck or what.
Floating Fox Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Where was the course in England? I watched the Canterbury leg...Well the ending anyway & when is the Tour De ing-erland this year?
dandannieldanok Posted 9 July 2007 Author Posted 9 July 2007 Where was the course in England? I watched the Canterbury leg...Well the ending anyway & when is the Tour De ing-erland this year? Basically the prologue was in Central London on Saturday and Stage 1 was from (Greenwich) to Canterbury on Sunday. And I'm not sure when the Tour of Britain.
Raj Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Those guys are legends. Absolute athletes of the highest order. I rode 13 miles in an hour on Saturday and i nearly died!!! LEGENDS the lot of them!!!
Kent Fox Posted 10 July 2007 Posted 10 July 2007 It went past my house on Sunday. Well, about 300yds away. Got there at 10:30 to watch the caravan / carnival which precedes it. It was rubbish. They had run out of freebies by the time they reached us. Had to watch it though because all the roads were closed and nobody could drive anywhere to get away from it. So ended up standing there til about 12:00 when the riders started arriving. Within 10 minutes it was all over. It was very boring and over-hyped in my opinion. But I agree that these guys are excellent athletes.
dandannieldanok Posted 10 July 2007 Author Posted 10 July 2007 Great effort by the riders who made the breakaway today, over 200km before they were dramatically caught in the very last kilometer. Fantastic finish by Cancellara, a real surprise.
dandannieldanok Posted 13 July 2007 Author Posted 13 July 2007 Great effort from Bradley Wiggins today but a couple of improtant factors were against him: Nobody to help him in the breakaway (90% of which fail on flat stages anyway) Rear wheel trouble
Daggers Posted 13 July 2007 Posted 13 July 2007 I went to the prologue, it were greeeeeat. I'm hating the way they went so much faster than me...but I'd like to see how fast they went if they weighed the same as me. Bloomin thin bastards.
dandannieldanok Posted 18 July 2007 Author Posted 18 July 2007 Cyclist hits dog in yesterdays stage Saw it on ITV highlights, very funny
dandannieldanok Posted 21 July 2007 Author Posted 21 July 2007 Some great rides, especially the eventual winner Vinokourov who has proved he has the champion class although his chances of winning in Paris are still small. Special mentions go to Michael Rasmussen who defended his yellow jersey superbly and the British lads Brad Wiggins and David Millar.
Charnwood Norris Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Holy sh*t! Did you see how soft that rim buckled under the dog? He was only going about 8mph!
dandannieldanok Posted 23 July 2007 Author Posted 23 July 2007 What a ride from Vino, without the fall this tour would have been his
shen Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 What a ride from Vino, without the fall this tour would have been his Nah, he's purely giving his all to get some Tour stages now that he blew his chances. Yesterdays stage was pretty much proof that Vino wouldn't have won this year after the fantastic time trial.
dandannieldanok Posted 23 July 2007 Author Posted 23 July 2007 Whats the general reaction to the Rasmussen saga in Denmark Shen? Are the public/media fully supportive of Rasmussen or think he should be thrown out?
Raj Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Another rider done for drugs! Its getting pretty serious stuff now. I know that in Germany the main channel has stopped showing the tour even though they paid mega money. Wonder what the future holds for Tour de France? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_spor...ing/6914301.stm
Daggers Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 It sucks. Le Tour will continue but those that support professional riders will ebb away at a greater rate. Despite the large numbers going to see the British stages this year the organisers really struggled to find volunteers for the First Stage. Loads of people that used to freely give their time to help the sport they love have been deciding to pull back, sick of the non-stop cheating. This latest one will do nothing but continue this move. Maybe just relying on riders to sign a bit of paper promising not to cheat wasn't really good enough - maybe they need to come up with something a bit better as a form of prevention in future!
Raj Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Maybe just relying on riders to sign a bit of paper promising not to cheat wasn't really good enough - maybe they need to come up with something a bit better as a form of prevention in future! I thought i read somewhere tha one of the teams had included in the contract that if one of their riders was caught cheating they would have to pay back a years salary? Surely that would work? Be intersting if someone could find out if any of the cheats are from that team!
Kent Fox Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I thought i read somewhere tha one of the teams had included in the contract that if one of their riders was caught cheating they would have to pay back a years salary?Surely that would work? Be intersting if someone could find out if any of the cheats are from that team! I saw that on a pre-Tour programme. It's a great idea and I think it should be written into every professional sportsperson's contracts with money going back into the sport at a lower level or to charity.
Raj Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Any idea what team it was?? Im sure someone can find out pls!
Daggers Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Surely that would work? I think the answer lies in the simple fact that it hasn't. It was a joke, a publicity stunt done to appease the media. Even the dope testing they do is predictable - and so to be caught out requires a level of stupidity of dannyboy11 proportions. They need to test the top 20-odd every day, there is no other way to cleanse the sport.
Phube Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Those guys are legends.Absolute athletes of the highest order. I rode 13 miles in an hour on Saturday and i nearly died!!! LEGENDS the lot of them!!! ALL on drugs, so it's easy really!! Most boring 'sport' on TV... followed by Golf. I don't even count Horse Racing as a sport!
Daggers Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Most boring 'sport' on TV... followed by Golf. Those, Sir, are the words of a fool. *glove slap*
Phube Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Those, Sir, are the words of a fool. *glove slap* I demand satisfaction!!! But it amkes no sense!!!! Teams individuals, people winning, but not! It's in France!!! What more could a 'sport' need to annoy me!??
