Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 July 2007 Share Posted 11 July 2007 He had a total mare from first to last. Made horrendous errors in both the Luton and Wolves games. 19 or 29, Mandaric and Allen have seen his errors, no doubt heard about his drinking and gambling, and have brought in a load of players who will challenge for the right-back position. It's make or break time for Master Stearman.

davieG Posted 11 July 2007 Share Posted 11 July 2007 Well the effect of this so called drinking and gambling is highly speculative I don't see how you can all be so sure that this is the major cause of his poor season, especially when virtually everyone else last season was shite, unless of course they were all drinking and gambling . The guy is still very young and had high expectations on him, money in his pocket, peer pressure to go out and enjoy the spoils, hell I still remember what it was like to be 19 and I was a pauper, I'm just surprised how hard you are all being on him. I'm not excusing his crap season just that people should get off his back and give him a chance to prove himself to Allen.
Toby or not Toby Posted 11 July 2007 Share Posted 11 July 2007 Stearman had his chance to prove himself in a city shirt , To be honest I don't think he deserves a chance because all the times he's had it. The new signings are here sell stearman or he could make a pretty decent bench warmer i was impressed when he first burst onto the seen, but since the end of that season his progress seems to have frozen. i hope he is given a chance to prove himself as i feel he has good potential

My thinking that he is a useless tool does not stand between him and Martin Allen does it? He can go ahead and try to prove himself...but his destiny is to warm the bench for Wicksteed Park Rovers. Presumably you think that because of his drinking and gambling not a lack of ability considering he was reported to be worth a 6 figure transfer fee a year ago? Blue Bob Posted 11 July 2007 Share Posted 11 July 2007 New owner, new manager, new season, new rules. I think we will see a big difference in City this season. I think the likes of Stearman will be given strict guidelines of their party nites out and told what is acceptable. MA will bring out the best in these players, I dont think they respected Kelly - MA is a different prospect.

I think the likes of Stearman will be given strict guidelines of their party nites out and told what is acceptable. MA will bring out the best in these players, I dont think they respected Kelly - MA is a different prospect. None are acceptable. These are professional sportsmen who are payed large amounts of money to be in physically peak shape and use their talent. Going out partying reduces their physical condition and their ability to maximise whatever talent they have. The odd drink occassionally is probably fine, late nights and binge drinking will do them no good whatsoever. It's only a short career and up to the players to make what they can of it but anyone who can't be @rsed because they want to go out partying during the season could get out of the club now and not come back because they are letting themselves, the manager and the fans down! Edited to say - I'm not saying we should get rid of Stearman right now, it sounds from the article like he wants to knuckle down and try hard. Just saying that that shoud be the minimum expected from players so fair play to him if he does put it behind him.
davieG Posted 12 July 2007 Share Posted 12 July 2007 There seems to be an assumption that boozing and partying = can't be arsed. I don't recall that being suggested in MONs time when even Robertson the coach was pissed (alledgedly) half the time. You either can be arsed or not I don't think the boozing has a major impact on people's attitude to trying to win a football game, it might but it's not a certainty. Of course booze, gambling and smoking free are all to be recommended.
Jimmy Posted 12 July 2007 Author Share Posted 12 July 2007 ffs why should he be barred from having a night out just because he's a footballer, so long as its not the night before a game i couldn't give a fook, get over your hypocracies, what do you think walshie and alike got upto, difference is there wernt loads of muppets out to tell all on all their activerties

Anyone got any clues what this was all about? I have a feeling it might be attempting to justify that Stearman should be allowed to do as he wishes as long as he does the business on the pitch...but there's a flaw in this argument that Jimmy hasn't spotted. Can anyone else spot it? That's right - Stearman has been a huge pile of wank all of last season.

Jimmy Posted 12 July 2007 Author Share Posted 12 July 2007 i wasn't saying they were discussing others, infact if you look i started the thread, i was simply saying you cant just single out stearman as being shity last season as EVERYONE was, otherwise we wouldn't of finished 19th, it's also not right you should expect them to leave tea total lifestyles just because they play football for a living
Thracian Posted 12 July 2007 Share Posted 12 July 2007 Stearman has a lot of convincing to do. He's got energy, good skills on the ball for a defender and is keen enough to support an attack but his passing in the air and on the floor is suspect, he's too easily beaten and seems too slow in recovering against quick opposition. I would have been tempted to sell him at the beginning of last season and will be looking for far better this season if he's to stay in the team. Indeed, if we're spoilt for midfielders, which seems to be the case, Ka'ebi looks an outstanding alternative at right back - at least judging from the clips I've seen which are obviously not conclusive. Munzie Posted 12 July 2007 Share Posted 12 July 2007 No one should be expected to lead a tea-total life (especially me! ) These players have a unique career, probably lasting until their mid-to late 30's. After that they are free to frequent as many bars and casino's as their liver and wallet can take! Until then, everything should be in moderation apart from their work-rate for the team.
