Jimmy Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 sorry if this has already been posted but i couldn't see it so ... Stearman Keen To ImpressPosted on: Wed 11 Jul 2007 City defender Richard Stearman is relishing a return to competitive action this weekend. The Foxes have two pre-season games scheduled on Saturday with mixed teams travelling to Oadby (1pm) and Quorn (3pm). And the 19-year-old is fit and cannot wait to set the ball rolling again after an intensive fortnight on the training pitches. "It's always good to get back out there," said Stearman. "There has been a lot of change over the summer and with 10 new signings so far the squad is shaping up to be more competitive than ever. "Before pre-season started I was down the gym, did a few runs, a few weights and a bit of swimming, just to get a head start. "The competition is going to be pretty fierce, there's going to be a few more additions and it drives you to be better and that can only be good." Now City's longest-serving senior player, having been with the Foxes since he was 10-years-old after being spotted for local side Harborough Town, Stearman is determined to impress new boss Martin Allen. "His approach is a bit different to what we have been used to in previous seasons but I think that's good for the players and the club. "I think he's taking us in the right direction; it should be an interesting season." A new-look Leicester will this season contain the likes of Carl Cort from Wolves, Radostin Kishishev (Charlton), Shaun Newton (West Ham) and Iranian World Cup star Hossein Kaebi who is currently playing in the Asian Cup. Stearman, who has 86 first-team appearances and eight goals to his name, said: "Everyone's looking forward to putting the strip on again and getting out there. "There are exciting times ahead." Lovejoy Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 If he just forgets about last season and gives 110% on the training ground and saturday afternoons there's no reason why he can't be a good player.

Agreed, he seemed to lose his way last season, maybe down to the manager. Have heard he needs encouragement from those around him to bring out the best. Do think that with the right handling he can really show he's more than capable.
DB11 Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 As long as he is confident and last season's performances was just because of the coaching staff then MA should get the best out of him
General Smuts Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 'Keen To Impress' - So he should be, he wasn't giving me any impression of be any good last season. Fingers crossed he gets back on track and performs up to our expectations this season with mad dog getting the best out of him.
Stevosevic Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 He'll find it hard to get into the side next year.
davieG Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Fryatt gets the benefit of the doubt because he's only 21, yet people seem to forget/ignore the fact that Stearman's only 19 and was messed about by Kelly being played all over the place, let's give the lad a fair crack of the whip.

Blue Bob Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 We will see how keen he is to impress or if he still goes out and gets bladdered every weekend!!!!

Spot On
Toby or not Toby Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Fryatt gets the benefit of the doubt because he's only 21, yet people seem to forget/ignore the fact that Stearman's only 19 and was messed about by Kelly being played all over the place, let's give the lad a fair crack of the whip. agreed, i feel allen will be able to motivate him to!
Jimmy Posted 11 July 2007 Author Posted 11 July 2007 We will see how keen he is to impress or if he still goes out and gets bladdered every weekend!!!! he was acting with-in the rules kelly set up (or kelly was too gutless to punish him) but i think allen will be stricter in anycase
dandannieldanok Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 I've backed him to become our U-21 star and it sounds like he isn't willing to disappoint

However ..... Now City's longest-serving senior player, ...... , Stearman is determined to impress new boss Martin Allen.
Jimmy Posted 11 July 2007 Author Posted 11 July 2007 which means he spent 7 years in the academy, your so right we should hold him to the same standard as walshie and other long serving players
Steven Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 which means he spent 7 years in the academy, your so right we should hold him to the same standard as walshie and other long serving players Keyword is Senior. Out of the current squad he has played more Senior games for City than any other player.
Daz.I Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Stearman had his chance to prove himself in a city shirt , To be honest I don't think he deserves a chance because all the times he's had it. The new signings are here sell stearman or he could make a pretty decent bench warmer
Guest Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Stearman had his chance to prove himself in a city shirt , To be honest I don't think he deserves a chance because all the times he's had it. The new signings are here sell stearman or he could make a pretty decent bench warmer Fair enough but I think in the season previous to last he proved he can cut it. And if he's gotta compete for his place it may just bring the best out of him again. Think we should give him a fair chance to see how he does under new management IMO.
BigGibbo Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 richard stearman is 19 years old & still has the potential to be one of are best players + is one of, if not our most senior player at his age aswell why does everyone keep bashing him?
city1993 Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 On his day, Stearman is one of the best footballers in this club, it's just the fact that most of the time it's not his day, I hope next season brings good fortune for him, otherwise he will be dropped for Chambers all the time.
davieG Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Stearman had his chance to prove himself in a city shirt , To be honest I don't think he deserves a chance because all the times he's had it. The new signings are here sell stearman or he could make a pretty decent bench warmer Well he's 19 in his first season he was excellent and being tipped for big things even a 6 figure transfer fee was bandied around, yes last season he under performed but who didn't, he was also messed around by Kelly and used all over the pitch. Lots of young players suffer a second season syndrome so Stearman is hardly unique. I don't think in the scheme of things you're being fair and equal saying he doesn't deserve a chance, but only time will tell.
Daggers Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 The useless fekking hoofing idiot can sod off for all I care.
davieG Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 The useless fekking hoofing idiot can sod off for all I care. That's the point though he wasn't a useless fekking hoofing idiot until Kelly got hold of him.
Jay Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 That's the point though he wasn't a useless fekking hoofing idiot until Kelly got hold of him. Exactly maybe with a manager who doesn't let him walk all over him, will keep and eye on him and not put up with his Drinking, partying and gambling he might become the Stearman who first put on a Leicester shirt and not the one who couldn't give a crap last season
Daggers Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 That's the point though he wasn't a useless fekking hoofing idiot until Kelly got hold of him. He wasn't a useless fekking hoofing idiot until after he started coining in cash for doing sod all, going out in his fancy car, shagging birds and generally forgetting he had responsibilities on the pitch either. I don't lay the blame fully at Kelly's door - Stearman knew what he was doing last season. He was more keen to play in the casino than on the pitch. I don't really care who's to blame. Sod him - that's how I feel.
