Nice to hear that in all the reports Hughes is working hard and is fighting for his place in the starting eleven.

Went to the oadby game and gotta say apart from fryatt and hume, the rest was awful. I know it was only a friendly but half of them couldn't even pass the ball, and levi was terrible. Maybe the pitch had a little to do with this. Maybury and kenton could'n t defend against a amature side, and were getting turned too easy. I am probably being a little over critical but that wasn't worth £5, i don't think i would have gone for free if i know it was gonna be that bad. Highlight of the game was when hume mis judged a ball and martin allen shouted good touch humes, and humey even had to laugh himself.

I left with 10minutes to go, but when they brought the young lads on in the 2nd half they looked a lot sharper and better footballers in general. i was really impressed with billy mckay and kingy. Lets hope

It should be mentioned that the playing surface was truly awful and we remarked after just a few minutes that they might at least have rolled it and got it into some sort of order. It was appalling and Fryatt was robbed of a goal from Porter's pass by a dreadful bobble.

I dont know much about Cox or Beswick, who was at left back? Our problem position it would seem.

Lee Cox is an Academy product. He was excellent in the U18 play-off final at Sunderland last season, challenging Max Gradel and BillyMckay for Man of the Match in my view. Very promising.

I think a few people was shocked when we was getting the songs flowing.

I think a few people were shocked when they heard happy birthday blaring out of the megaphone

I was at the Oadby game...

Gotta put a slightly different light on the game than some posters here... Firstly though I do agree with comments on this thread that Gradal looked good and so did the right back Cox. I've never seen either play before. I also thought Hellings looked as if he might be useful. Early to tell and he had a quiet game but I just had a sense when he touched it that he might be a good squad player this season. He's built like Vierra - didn't play like him though!

Where I disagree is on Hughes & Fryatt.I actually thought that Hughes didn't have a bad game at all. he was involved and mostly found his man with passes - which on that terrible bobbly pitch was not bad. I was particularly looking for signs that Fryatt was gonna show us he's put last season behind him. To me, though he was certainly involved, he had several chances created for him and he didn't score one. Hume had half the chances and banged one in. The volley Fryatt had looked park football level. After last season he really needed to show up well to his new manager. He didn't.

What game was you watching?

Fryatt was half decent, considering this was second pre season friendly because he wouldn't have played in both the friendlies behind closed doors.

Hughes was dreadfull.

My brother played in the game, he has given me his impression on the game, but it would be interesting to hear others!!

He was impressed with Fryatt and Hume, Hellings was disapointing poor fist touch, as was Kenton, Hughes and Maybury. Porter was Ok. Max Gradel looked quality (he thinks it's him, wears yellow boots), he also said a few of the academy were impressive but doesn't know there names!!!

He expected a tougher game, but was surprised that city were unable to really carve themselves a bigger win, basically he said they had tougher games, considering the difference in fitness levels etc!!

Jimmy was great, he came off the pitch and asked me if it was still 1-0... literally 30 seconds after he left the pitch

Gradel wasn't wearing the yellow boots - that was Hayes. It's like watching a footballer with two giant canaries on his feet when he's flying!

Fryatt was very involved in the game as I said. But you would expect a pro team against amateurs to get the ball to the their forwards frequently. Yes, he showed one or two nice touches but my alarm bells rang about him simply because he didn't score despite numerous chances whereas Hume got one - with about half the chances. And I repeat again, his volley was park football standard. As for Hughes I've read other posts and anyone who mentions him said he was poor, but I honestly thought he didn't have a bad game on Saturday. I'm no fan of his & I'd forget the £50,000 & get rid on a free transfer.
