spirefox Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 Having produced another superb away performance with a 4-5-1 formation, how can we go back to the tried and failed 4-4-2 system at home? Can either Williams or Hughes be dropped ? I think we've got to try yesterday's line up with Gillespie and Hughes pushing forward for the next match.
Scarby Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 If its not broke dont fix it! if we play like we did against Charlton we will tear Stoke to pieces.
Steven Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 There has to be a desire to leave things as they are. However that might be overkill or the wrong tactics for Stoke. Leave it to Craig.
Mark Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 I would keep the same formation away from home, it worked perfectly against Charlton. I aint keen on one up front at home though But Stoke are one of the most negative teams in this division, neither do they score or concede so a 0-0 is possibly on the cards, if we're going to win we're going to have to battle out a 1-0 win i suspect
Nationwider Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 Don't know what the formation will be, but don't be surprised if we see a couple of changes. A few players are only just back to full fitness (Hughes, Tiatto, Maybury, Williams, De Vries) while Dublin has been rested before. I'd expect to see Connelly (and MAYBE Nalis) start against Stoke. CL'll know that Reading next Sat is the tougher of this week's league matches.

Leave it to Craig. 69112 I'd agree with that, Craig will get the best tactics for the team we're playing. Before the Charlton match I was saying to Scowy how I didn't think 4-5-1 would work, and I was proven wrong
shen Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 What about playing 3-5-2 instead of 4-5-1? 69294 which fullbacks/wingers would you sacrifice?
Steven Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 What about playing 3-5-2 instead of 4-5-1? 69294 CL sees it as defensive ( <_< ) and therefore is more likely to go with 4-5-1 or 4-4-2.
davieG Posted 20 February 2005 Posted 20 February 2005 The tactics were right for Charlton - Away but are not necessarily the right tactics for Stoke - Away. Charlton have a particularly strong midfield relatively speaking, where as Stoke, well they're Stoke . I'm just glad CL is not afraid to change the formation to suit the oppo, bearing in mind we were promised a 442 hoof style. I'm sure when he has the players he wants he will stick with 442 more often than not as he will have confidence in his team and expect the oppo to change to deal with the mighty LCFC
