act smiley Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 for a side that can't even beat Slovakia at home. Don't remind me, I'll have flashbacks
Finnegan Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Don't remind me, I'll have flashbacks Worst. game. ever?
Geo V Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 I must admit to cheering on all the home nations, including the Scots who always like to laugh at the English and ridicule us whenever they can! To have that muck of a side under Vogts and before and to now be in a position to having a chance of qualification with some good players coming through is great for them. Im not too sure about the rest of the Home nations though although Northern Ireland have done superbly and are punching way above their weight. England will come through as they mostly do but I fear we are wasting more years of some of our world class footballers by playing shoddy football under mediocre management. I just hope that one day someone at the FA will encourage a Brazilian over to these shores to manage the team who gives them some freedom to express themselves because most of our players get into some safety first mentality which just isnt healthy. ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK. BTW at least Greece top their group

BTW at least Greece top their group i used to follow the others, until i discovered the amount of hate felt by some scots/welsh/etc (ha - the irish will love that!) so i stopped, i'm no more welsh than i am french... anyway now my 'second team' allegiancies have shifted to the mighty norwegians, who are actually starting to look really good, with John 'caradona' carew as the national paper called him, or (here we go...) Kong Carew....
act smiley Posted 24 August 2007 Posted 24 August 2007 Worst. game. ever? Indeed. Paul Jones was a disgrace and should have shot himself at half time.
Finnegan Posted 24 August 2007 Posted 24 August 2007 Indeed. Paul Jones was a disgrace and should have shot himself at half time. If only for his haircut alone. i used to follow the others, until i discovered the amount of hate felt by some scots/welsh/etc Good for you. To be honest, I never got the whole "Oh, I like to see Wales / Scotland do well!" stuff. It's so condescending! Like "Awww, look at little Wales beating Italy, pretending they're all footballers - bless." fook it. You don't want to see Forest promoted, you don't want to see Derby stay up, why should you want to see Wales beat anyone? I love a bit of rivalry in sport. I'm all for laughing at England when they lose to Germany, sure. It's not like I'm saying "Ahaha, everyone from England sucks ass and rapes goats!" I'm just saying, ahah, I don't like your football team. We don't hate everyone that lives in Nottingham, we just hate the club. It ain't prejudice, it's just banter. But it works both ways, too. Next Englishman I hear telling me how glad he is that at least one British side is doing well and that he's pleased that the Jocks are off flying the Jack for 'our nation's sport', I'm probably going to Glasgee-kiss.

BartonFox Posted 24 August 2007 Author Posted 24 August 2007 I f'ckn hate England when it comes to sport (except cricket ) I continually hope they get humiliated and cock it up. Against my mates it's purely banter, against experts and journo's it's because they are all f'ckin tools who think England is awash with world class players. I like the Welsh and Northern Irish to do well (except against us) because they have to put up with the bias and patronising bollocks as well. Austria and Switzerland will be a right party with the raving Green Army of the North and the Tartan Army there. What bugs me mental is that the Austrian and Swiss authorities don't want the English there because of the security headache, which means most of you lot get tarred with the hooligan brush. It is time the England fans do what the Socts did back after Wembley '77 where we took the piss and your ground, and that was police ourselves and drive the hooligans away. Lots of Club casuals from Scotland follow the national team, they hate the biscuit tin image of the TA but if they step out of line a giant farmer from somewhere like Huntley will put him back in his place. Scotland and NI will qualify because they really want it, England won't because their players think it is a given.

If England don't qualify, I really hope you sweaties or the Northern Irish do qualify. I'm not one to hold grudges against the other Home Nations except when we play each other. But then again, i'm English and we've invariably always been stronger than the other home nations and therefore, there's no jealousy on my part.
Brainy Posted 24 August 2007 Posted 24 August 2007 Scotland and NI will qualify because they really want it, England won't because their players think it is a given. Well put, though i'd replace will with might. Same with England - mightn't. But if it turns out the way you said, thats spot on.
purpleronnie Posted 24 August 2007 Posted 24 August 2007 I hope every home nation qualifies apart from england. Then I won't have to hear about how england choked again for weeks on end. Plus watching teams like scotland playing with such passion as if it was their last game of their lives then you hear players lke carragher who dosen't want to play for england because he dosen't get picked everytime...didums. Makes me sick.
