DB11 Posted 27 August 2007 Posted 27 August 2007 I don't follow athletics. All seems a bit strange really. Wow you can run fast <_<
Geo V Posted 27 August 2007 Posted 27 August 2007 The World Championships is usually the Olympics but without the shite like Hurling and Archery but I must admit, I cant be bothered to watch it because Britain hasn't any World Class athletes and Greece only have a few decent ones to cheer on but aren't doing so well now they are not smashed on drugs. Its also soul destroying to see so many athletes from what can be described as "poor" countries from Africa or even Central Europe managing to show up nations like ours who you would have thought have better facilities continue to do better than us. It is funny though to see the news and here that our female pole vaulter managed to clear about 4.10 and the winner almost volted a metre over or something silly. We are just so shite in so many events and we shouldnt be.

stez Posted 27 August 2007 Author Posted 27 August 2007 What a farce that womens 100m was at the end. didn't see that, i switched off annoyed at phillips' showing
Finnegan Posted 27 August 2007 Posted 27 August 2007 I don't usually watch athletics, but I got hooked on the hammer throw / tripple jump and / mens 10k combo earlier. The 10k was fooking brilliant. I used to run cross country, 800 and 1500 when I was a kid - love a bit of the longer distances. Though as an adult 800's more or less a sprint, haha, not quite when you're 13 mind. PS: Really wanted that Brazillian to win the tripple jump. Sorry, Stez, but I've never seen athletics as a "team" or "national pride" thing - same as motorsport, really. I've always seen it as individuals and he was the most entertaining on the day.

Amazing race, the winner was awesome. .............and as for the triple jumper It's about time we started rewarding our world champions and not all these non hopers who get a nice sum every month and come 8th or 9th One of our hopes for an olympic gymnastics medal gets £100 a month and it costs his folks a £1000 a month to keep him going so they're selling their house! That ain't right surely?

I always had seen it as a team thing until today when the runner up in the womans 100m said that coming second cost her $30k-Who says it aint about the money!
Milky Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 We just got a Gold and Silver in the Womens 400m! We haven't had a one-two in the world championship since 1993. HUGE result.

I popped out for a bit and though your post was a wind-up. Thats amazing to see as I thought we wouldn't get any more than that bronze in the heptathlon. Well done the girls who are showing up the male GB athletes.
