Unabomber Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 I thought you needed insurance to play professional football, but I can't be certain. I hope he does get to play again though :yesyes:
bringbackWalshie Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Players need to have insurance as there professional careers can be short, its similar to JLO or jordan insuring their body parts, as they are their livelyhood
Thracian Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 I'm fairly sure they HAVE to have insurance. Whether they all NEED it is another matter. If a player has been in a top team for ages, like Lampard or Gerrard, I cannot imagine they'd be struggling to pay their medical bills if they suffered a career threatening injury.
Simon Posted 12 September 2007 Author Posted 12 September 2007 Am I the only one who thinks it disgusting that someone who has suffered health problems should be denied the chance to play professional football because of insurance?.Why the hell is it so much worse to get ill on a football pitch than at the top of some stairs in a nursing home? People who are/have been ill - especially those over 70 - have been effectively turned into second class citizens by today's so-called caring society and are denied so many things which could be avoided simply by their signing a liability disclaimer. Why should insurance companies have the power to affect people's livelihoods and their enjoyment of life. What with the nanny state coming out with the notion that people who have paid into the health service for years might not be treated if their lifestyle doesn't meet with approval and the ever-increasing penalising of anyone who gets ill with an increasingly wide range of bogey ailments, it wouldn't surprise me if eventually people soon become inelligible for insurance should they ever get ill or the country declares that getting ill is illegal anyway and subject to an on-the-spot fine. I agree one hundred percent with the sentiments expressed here Thrac with regard to insurance and society- you're absolutely on the money with that. I'm not so sure Clive's illness would have invalidated his existing insurance as it wasn't a condition anyone was aware of him even having in the first place by the sounds of it. I'm sure if he decides he can, and he is well enough, insurance won't be stopping him playing football.
Karlos Posted 12 September 2007 Posted 12 September 2007 Was good to see the interview and that he made a great recovery, but was disapointed when they put 'sunderland' under his name, is he not still under City contract for 6 weeks yet? anyway good too see him back to normal
Bert Posted 12 September 2007 Posted 12 September 2007 I think the loan was with a view to permanent anyway. Just hope he fully recovers and then can start playing football again.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Leicester's on loan defender Clive Clarke hopes to get the all-clear later this month to resume training after he collapsed in a game last month. (Daily Mirror)
Tabou Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Just read he is hoping to play again!!!! At the end of the month!!! That really is astonishing!! I do think he should take his time though, he is only late 20's after all. He should wait until he is good and ready for if/when he plays again. Good lluck Mr. Clarke! You were superb for us! But life is more important than football (sometimes.) Dont be a martyr!
