Fox Shagger Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Zambia's Chaswe Nsofwa has died in an Israeli hospital minutes after collapsing during a training session. The 27-year-old was training with his Israeli second division side Hapoel Beersheba when the tragedy struck. Rescue workers tried to restart his heart for several minutes on the field before taking him to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba. Paramedic Carmel Cohen said that he rushed to the field when he received the emergency call. "When we arrived we found the soccer player lying on the grass," he explained. "We found his friends trying to help him. "We gave him first aid, electric shocks and an external pacemaker, but despite all our efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital." It was not known what caused the player's collapse. Nsofwa was part of the Zambia squad at the 2002 African Cup of Nations in Mali and last year had helped the Chipolopolo win the Cosafa Cup, scoring one of the goals in the final 2-0 win over Angola. On Tuesday Spain and Sevilla's Antonio Puerta died three days after collapsing during a league game. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/6969607.stm Crazy stuff. RIP.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Incredible, amazing how such instances come along in bunches. Crazy
Tommy G Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Very odd, although this one seems to be blamed on the heat?
Dames Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 R.I.P. Certainly worring that people are suffering heart attacks at younger ages and there supposed to be fit. Kinda makes you think that if you go out for a kick about in a few years time you could just drop dead.
Finnegan Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 I'd imagine it happens far more than you realise, especially in hotter climates, it likely just doesn't get major news coverage. Either way, very, very tragic.
Bluefoxtim Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 Nooooo come on... These incidents are just being abnormally highlighted... When that girl got killed by that dog, we had stories pretty much every day about 'another' child being injured by a dog. Then after a week or two, we heard nothing more. No doubt these incidents happen all the time unfortunately
David O'Leary Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 Crazy R.I.P all the best to his fasmily and friends
