Kilworthfox Posted 18 September 2007 Posted 18 September 2007 Link Leicester City aim to make the most of their “second-chance†at Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carling Cup tonight (7.45). The collapse of City left-back Clive Clarke caused the initial fixture at the City Ground three weeks ago to be abandoned at half-time. City were trailing 1-0 after a poor first-half display and, with new manager Gary Megson in his first game in charge tonight, they know they cannot afford to allow the Division One side to take charge again. A glamour trip to Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa awaits tonight's victors but Megson is not looking that far ahead. He said: “This will be an exciting game, a local derby and I am sure everyone will be looking forward to it, but the idea of what happens next is not in my thinking. “We hope to play well and show that we can make progress, not just in the competition but as a team.†The City team will be Megson's first selection, and it will be a case of fine-tuning rather than huge alterations from the draw against QPR in the Championship at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday. Changes will be minimal but the main difference he wants to see is in the level of performance. Megson said: “Having watched the video of Saturday's game, I could see we played very well for most of the match but did not manage to get the win, so we will concentrate on the positives.†Victory at Forest would allow Megson to end a 52-year curse that has hung over the City hot seat, with no manager winning his first match in charge since David Halliday in 1955. Tension will be high, not just because of the rivalry but because of Megson returning to his former club. He can be assured of a stormy reception from the Forest fans as he was in charge when they dipped into the third tier of the league a couple of seasons ago. But the animosity will be only one way as Megson has praised the Forest set-up, as well as their reactions as the drama involving Clarke unfolded during the last meeting. He said: “There are some great people running Forest and I am looking forward to meeting them again. “As to what happened in the last game, they could have insisted the match carried on, which might have been legally right but would have been morally wrong, and it should be acknowledged they did the right thing.†Forest earned their first League One win at the fifth attempt with a 2-0 success at Port Vale on Saturday. Manager Colin Calderwood said: “Everyone knows we badly needed a win and the hope now is that it will kick-start our season. “We've been desperate to put three points on the board and it makes us feel a whole lot better about things. “We have to take the next step now, we have taken the first one. “We are glad we have won a game of football and we will go into the Leicester game full of spirit.â€
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 18 September 2007 Posted 18 September 2007 Is there any chance we may throw this game in good faith for them postponing the match
demon_dog Posted 18 September 2007 Posted 18 September 2007 Is there any chance we may throw this game in good faith for them postponing the match Funny you should say that! If I recall correctly, Martin Allen stated the following day prior to his departure, that neither he nor Milan were particularly interested in winning the cup game as their priority was the league. I hope that Milan has not stuck his oar in again. Megson probably would love us to go and win this game with authority, to say up yours to all the Forest and Leicester fans that don't want him. It would be a good way of saying to all, I'm here, like it or not, we'll do it my way.
Daggers Posted 18 September 2007 Posted 18 September 2007 I'm not interested in Cup games in the grand scheme of things. Our priority is doing well in the league, cup matches detract from that. I'm happy to see the youth team trot out tonight...that'd show Forest

Reckon there'll be a "Do it for the Clarkster " speach in referance to the last fixture?

Megson sounds quite encouraging when he talks of minimal changes. I hope Kaebi plays with Chambers at right back and that we attack the game properly.

Complete bullsh!t. Does TPH work at the Mercury or something? As far as most City fans are concerned, Megson's first game in charge was on Saturday. Whether he selected the team or not it was his tactics and his substitutions which influenced that game, and not for the better. And by the way, Gordon Lee won his first match in charge in February 1991. So while there may be a curse (affecting the last ELEVEN managers we've had since that date), it doesn't stretch quite so far as the Mercury makes out.

DB11 Posted 18 September 2007 Posted 18 September 2007 Well surely one manager this season will win his first game in charge? Anyway, what is with the thread title being about his dentist Also, I think that LCFC will win and if we let them score deliberately most fans would take an even bigger dislike to GM!
