Tim Henman wins his last ever singles match

The Tiger has just won his last game and is getting all emotional live on BBC2 as I type. The fans are calling him Sir Timothy Henman :S:|

Ive thought he was a decent player but one that hasn't got that killer instinct that so many American players have who have done well in mens singles. No disrespect to him but Ive always thought of him as a bit of a pu$$y and a choker when the chips were down and have thus rated him as just OK, but someone who could have done better.

Good riddance to mediocrity, lets hope Murray can become a real champion.

EDIT - Apologies for buggering up the poll I had set lol

Murray has a long, long way to go to get anywhere near what Tim achieved in his career. He's been brilliant. Pretty much flying the flag on his own for the last decade, and one of the best we've ever produced.

Murray has a long way to go but is showing some good signs beating some of the best players in the world along the way. Henman won about ten titles I think but didnt get beyond the semi-s in any major events which is why I think that he was a choker. Of course he was the best of what we had and was part of some memorable games, usually at Wimbledon where he lost but being the best of a bad bunch doesn't necessarily mean he was a great player.

Henman has flown the flag for our country for years now, he's a very good player. He's never been quite good enough to win as many titles but he's still been excellent. He gets a seriously bad press, he's far from mediocre. The man rejuvenated tennis in this country.

Come on, you don't need to be a chocker to lose the the likes of Sampras in their prime!

He has done a lot for British Tennis, maybe not in the way of success, but watching his matches was always an epic rollercoaster, particularly at Wimbledon. Used to frustrate the life out of me but also amaze me with his drop shots and volleys under extreme pressure. Fair play to the bloke for carrying on as long as he did with all the shit he took off certain quarters, since his back injury he was never the same.

In what sense is being ranked in the top 10 in the world mediocre?

No-one really has any right to criticise Henman. He has been the ONLY decent British player (maybe Greg for a very short period helped out), male or female in the last decade and with that has had pretty much all of the media's attention focussed on him. No single American player has that kind of pressure to deal with because of the quantity of good players that we produce. The people who criticise should maybe focus on the lack of support for youngsters wishing to take up the game and the elitist culture which is prevalent in many of these sports.

The only time REALLY choked was against Ivanisovich, really.

I've almost definately spelt that wrong, but nevermind.

Yep the other times he simply wasn't good enough.

Murray reached the top ten rankings in half the time henman did. Andy already has 4 title wins. And his ranking wasn't based on a particular grass court tournament.

Taking into account a bad wrist injury its quite a feat, if he keeps injury free he will surpass Timid Tim in no time.

That really SHOULD have been his year.

If the rain hadn't have come that day I still have no doubt that he would have won the match and made the final. Who knows what would have happened then? :dunno:
