Jay Posted 6 October 2007 Posted 6 October 2007 not actually being from Leicester and really only knowing the way to my spiritual home Upperton Bridge doesn't mean much to me BUT it obviously does to some people whoever did that sight has spent and incredible amount of time and effort with photos etc. I am intrigued to know does it really mean that much to people?
Floating Fox Posted 6 October 2007 Posted 6 October 2007 To be fair it was getting old but it's another peice of the Great Central gone, how long before the old bridge near Braunstone Gate goes as well I wonder
Zingari Posted 6 October 2007 Posted 6 October 2007 sad really and i've got some great memories of working at gimsons timber yard in the 60's but the area drastically needed a bulldoze
Hullfox Posted 6 October 2007 Posted 6 October 2007 Gone by the end of the month Story and pictures Closure Notice It's funny really. I don't get nostalgic that much but when I looked at the photo's it reminded me of my childhood days walking down Upperton road to Filbert Street and being lifted to see over the side of the bridge to see the stadium. Sad that it will not be there but things move on.....

Floating Fox Posted 6 October 2007 Posted 6 October 2007 Different isn't always better. Change is not good.
Unit Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 I always get confused on names but this is the one that the everton fan died on isn't it?
stez Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 Different isn't always better. and isn't always worse and to be honest, i wouldn't fancy driving over a bridge that needs supporting due to the amount of rust holding it together! and as i never went to filbert street from that direction, i couldn't care less!

Rincewind Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 In a world that moves on things are usually different.
hairy Posted 8 October 2007 Posted 8 October 2007 I think its good to see these areas being redeveloped. There are large areas of railway sidings in Leicester that could be developed rather than developing green field sites. Great post Mr G
