Manwell Pablo Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12016_2808051,00.html I suppose it's only right that he sees out his on failure. No excuses that way. He'd better go after the Croatia game though.
Daggers Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 He'd better go after the Croatia game though. I presume you mean Barwick as well... The FA has a history of incompetence on a grand scale, but Barwick has to be in the running for the "Worst Ever FA Employee of All-time"
Steven Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 I presume you mean Barwick as well...The FA has a history of incompetence on a grand scale, but Barwick has to be in the running for the "Worst Ever FA Employee of All-time" Being an executive producer at the BBC is obviously a prime qualification for the job. After all a predecessor, David Davies, was Education correspondent for the BBC.
Geo V Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 The FA are clueless. With that said, I wouldnt be surprised if Macca is sacked regardless of what Barwick or any other FA official says once we are confirmed as out of Euro 2008.

It goes without saying... on both counts. If we are out, there's no way McClaren can stay... even the dingbats at the FA know that. Failing to qualify from that group with this squad of players just isn't good enough.

Ultra Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Sven wasn't so bad after all? Sven wasn't great, but McClaren is far worse. It's like comparing Micky Adams with Rob Kelly!
Stevosevic Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Sven wasn't so bad after all? At least we qualified with Sven.
Simi Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Barwick is such a cock. Every time he speaks to the media it seems he sh*ts himself when it comes to making a decsion. He just always backs the easy option. If McLaren goes, I hope he follows.
Joe. Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Didn't the FA give him a three year deal or something like that too? Absolutely mental. If he does stay that's the only reason, because we won't have to pay him off that way. He's got to go I'm afraid regardless or qualification.
Daggers Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 I still don't understand how Barwick kept his job after the absolute ****-up he instigated during the appointment process Really, I've parted company with employers for various reasons but I have never been as shit at my job as him.
lookwhaticando Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Didn't the FA give him a three year deal or something like that too? Absolutely mental. Four years... as is tradition. That gave him the chance to lead us to the 2010 World Cup. In theory, at least.
Joe. Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Four years... as is tradition. That gave him the chance to lead us to the 2010 World Cup. In theory, at least. It's crazy. To give a manager like McLaren (or even anybody for that matter) a contract of that length for the English national side is just stupid. If we wanted to get rid we'd have to stump up a great deal of cash, and this is definitely going to hold them back from making a decision on McLaren.

Yet if he was given a two year contract, people who outrage that it was showing a lack of ambition under McLaren.
lookwhaticando Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 They had to give him 4 years to demonstrate they were serious about him... which was a difficult ask since he was clearly the second choice after the FA bungled it. If you go after another chap and he turns you down, you can't turn to the second choice and give him two years... that just emphasises that the second choice was really the second choice, hence the short term deal. Let's not forget that Sven's initial contract was for five years. How odd would it be to sign a new national coach for just two years when the last one got five to begin with? They really hamstrung themselves.
